Jaecoo has expanded its local lineup with the introduction of a new entry-level plug-in hybrid variant, the J7 SHS Track.

Priced at $43,990 drive-away, the new model arrives in showrooms this month as the most accessible point of entry into the electrified J7 range.

The Track variant utilises the brand’s 'Super Hybrid System' (SHS), which combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a single electric motor.

Jaecoo claims this powertrain combination delivers a total driving range of up to 1,200 kilometres and provides electric-drive capability to reduce fuel consumption.

While the brand markets itself independently, the J7 shares its platform and core mechanical architecture with the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.

The 'SHS' technology is effectively a rebranding of the plug-in hybrid system found in wider Chery group products, though Jaecoo positions its vehicle with a more rugged, "European-inspired" design aesthetic.

Jaecoo reported that the J7 has sold more than 2,000 units in Australia since its introduction earlier this year.

The $43,990 drive-away price point positions the J7 SHS Track aggressively against fellow Chinese competitors.

It undercuts the GWM Haval H6 Lux PHEV, which is currently on sale at $44,990 drive-away nationwide, and sits below the BYD Sealion 6 Essential, which comes in at $46,185 driveaway in Victoria.

Despite the entry-level positioning, the J7 SHS Track retains a substantial list of standard equipment, including a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The system supports wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside a voice command system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Interior comfort features include synthetic leather seats which are heated and ventilated for the driver and front passenger.

The cabin is further appointed with an acoustic glass windscreen and a six-speaker audio system.

Safety specifications comprise eight airbags and a 360-degree surround-view monitor, with the Jaecoo also scoring the maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating.

The vehicle is backed by Jaecoo’s eight-year ownership program, covering an unlimited-kilometre warranty, capped-price servicing and roadside assistance.

The brand also highlighted its 'Future Price Promise', a guaranteed minimum future value scheme designed to alleviate consumer concerns regarding the depreciation of new Chinese automotive brands.

The launch is supported by a Black Friday offer comprising $2,000 cashback and three years of free servicing for eligible customers.
