Subaru Australia has announced the arrival of the updated MY26 Subaru Solterra, the brand’s first battery-electric vehicle (BEV), now offering more power, range and standard technology at a reduced starting price of $63,990 before on-road costs.

The new powertrain mirrors the “XT” version unveiled in the U.S. earlier this year, now producing 252 kW from its dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup — an increase of 92 kW over the outgoing Australian model’s 160 kW system.

This upgrade brings the local Solterra in line with global markets, pairing new electric motors with a larger 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery for improved performance and efficiency.

A maximum WLTP-rated range of up to 566 km is available for the Solterra AWD, while the Touring variant delivers up to 517 km.

Charging performance has also been upgraded, with AC charging capability rising from 11 kW to 22 kW.

Using a 150 kW DC fast charger, the battery can reach 80 per cent charge in approximately 30 minutes.

The MY26 Solterra rides on an improved e-Subaru Global Platform, designed to enhance ride comfort, quietness and all-wheel-drive control.

Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and Dual Mode X-Mode remain standard, along with 212 mm of ground clearance and an increased towing capacity of 1500 kg with trailer brakes.

Exterior changes include a new front bumper, redesigned LED headlights and fresh 18-inch or 20-inch wheel designs, depending on the variant.

Inside, the cabin gains a 14-inch infotainment display, dual wireless phone chargers and 64-colour ambient lighting linked to drive modes.

The Touring variant adds a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, Harman Kardon premium audio and a 220V Vehicle-to-Load power outlet.

Both grades feature synthetic leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, and a new driver’s knee airbag for added protection.

Subaru’s latest Safety Sense suite is standard, incorporating Pre-Collision Braking, Emergency Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

The Touring model further adds Advanced Park Assist, a 360-degree camera system and a Multi-Terrain Monitor.

Pricing for the 2026 Subaru Solterra starts at $63,990 for the AWD and $69,990 for the AWD Touring, with premium paint options available at an additional $660.

An optional two-tone paint and leather interior package for the Touring variant costs an additional $1,500.

Subaru has also confirmed capped servicing costs for the MY26 Solterra, with five years or 75,000 km of scheduled maintenance priced at a total of $856.10 including GST.

The program covers labour, parts and consumables, with the first one-month health check provided at no cost. The highest-cost service occurs at the 60,000 km or 48-month interval, priced at $300.85.

The Solterra shares its underpinnings with the Toyota bZ4X, built on the same e-Subaru Global Platform that Toyota refers to as e-TNGA.

Toyota’s updated 2026 bZ4X, due in Australia later this year, is expected to feature a similar powertrain upgrade and larger battery, alongside improved range and efficiency.

Toyota has also confirmed a larger bZ4X Touring variant with an extended body and increased luggage capacity, though Subaru has not announced any equivalent longer-wheelbase Solterra.

All Solterra models are covered by a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty, and a 60-month capped price servicing program. Twelve months of roadside assistance is also included at no cost.
