MG Announces MG4 XPOWER 'Supercar killer' for just $59,990

MG Motor has confirmed the introduction of its all-new high-performance all-electric hatchback, the MG4 EV XPOWER, set for release in Q4 2023 or Q1 2024. Touted as MG's most potent production car to date, the model will be priced at $59,990 AUD.

The MG4 XPOWER will boast a dual motor powertrain, offering 320kW and torque of up to 600Nm. These specifications set the MG4 in direct competition with other high-end performance hatchbacks in the market including the Audi RS3 and Mercedes-Benz AMG A45. Notably, the vehicle can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 3.8 seconds.

Within some circles, the MG4 XPOWER's outright accelleration has been described as a 'Supercar Killer'.

In terms of design, the new model incorporates subtle changes. These include orange ‘XPOWER' brake calipers, a two-tone black roof, 18'' alloy wheels, polished trim accents, and an exclusive new Racing Green colour.

The underpinnings of the XPOWER are based on the MG4's Modular Scalable Platform (MSP). The vehicle is powered by a novel dual motor configuration, supplying up to 320kW and 600Nm to all four wheels through front (150kW) and rear (170kW) electric motors. This model also introduces an innovative Dynamic Cornering Control System. This system, a first for MG, includes a locking electronic differential and Intelligent Motor Control, enabling torque vectoring between all wheels.

The vehicle's enhanced drivetrain offers sophisticated upgrades that allow optimal power distribution, ensuring stability during cornering. Additionally, MG has implemented comprehensive suspension modifications, such as recalibrated spring and damper tuning, and an increase in overall suspension stiffness by up to 25%.

Furthermore, the MG4 XPOWER introduces a recalibrated regenerative braking software, offering one-pedal driving when appropriate. The model can decelerate from 100-0kph within 33.9 meters, thanks to upgraded ventilated 345mm discs and new premium Bridgestone Turanza tires. Additionally, the hatchback includes a launch control feature, underscoring its high-performance capabilities.

Should Chinese Cars Be Banned in Australia?

Banning Chinese cars in Australia makes no sense. With no local car industry to protect, tariffs would only hurt consumers and limit choice.
