The 2026 BYD ATTO 2 DM-i plug-in hybrid small SUV has been confirmed for sale in the European market, although Australian plans are yet to be confirmed.

While full specifications haven’t been announced for the European market, two variants of the ATTO 2 DM-i will be available, each with different battery sizes, driving ranges, and performance figures.

Claimed electric-only driving range will be up to 90km, while the overall driving range will be up to 1,020 km according to BYD.

The 2026 BYD ATTO 2 DM-i is headed for Europe

The PHEV ATTO 2 sports some visual differences compared to its BEV stablemate. Aside from the obvious badging differences, the DM-i is distinguished by its larger middle grille, decorative elements on the lower portion of the front bumper, and the absence of front wing side vents.

An exclusive Midnight Blue colour will also be available exclusively for the PHEV variant.

Should the ATTO 2 DM-i come to Australia, it will likely do battle with other affordable hybrid small SUV models, such as the MG ZS Hybrid+, the incoming Jaecoo J5 hybrid variant, and the GWM Haval Jolion Hybrid.

However, none of its potential rivals are currently available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, differentiating BYD’s offering.

The fully-electric version of the BYD ATTO 2 was confirmed for an Australian launch earlier this month.

Slotting in below the larger ATTO 3 – which is priced between $39,990 and $44,990 before on-road costs – the electric BYD ATTO 2 is expected to be priced somewhere in the mid to high 30s.

The plug-in hybrid version could be even cheaper, which would make it a genuine contender for Australia’s cheapest PHEV model, a title BYD’s Sealion 6 lost to the Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid earlier this year. The Geely Starray EM-i came close to taking Chery’s title, but couldn’t match it’s drive-away price.

In Europe, pre-sales for the ATTO 2 DM-i are set to begin in Q1 of 2026, although BYD has yet to make an announcement on whether it will be coming to Australia.
