IM Motors – founded in late 2020 in a joint venture between MG’s parent company SAIC Motor, Zhangjian Hi-Tech, and Alibaba – will launch in Australia as MG’s electric luxury brand, sold through MG dealerships under the name ‘IM Presented by MG’.

The IM5 sedan and IM6 SUV – which were previewed at the Melbourne Motor Show in April – are currently sold in China as the IM L6 and IM LS6, respectively.

The IM5 and IM6 are offered in Premium, Platinum or Performance trim levels, with prices starting from $60,990 drive-away.

The Premium variant – featuring a 75kWh battery – and the Platinum variant with a 100kWh battery both adopt a rear-wheel drive setup, while the range-topping Performance variant adds all-wheel drive, a dual-motor layout, and a 100kWh battery, producing a combined power output of 572kW.

This propels the IM5 Performance from 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and the IM6 Performance in 3.4.

The IM5 and IM6 both feature rear-wheel steering, allowing the rear wheels to turn in conjunction with the front wheels to improve maneuverability.

Depending on the variant, the IM5 offers a WLTP range between 490km and 655km, while the IM6 ranges from 450km to 555km.

Inside, both models are equipped with a 26.3-inch infotainment display, a 10.5-inch central touchscreen, smart-device magnets, a 20-speaker sound system, and integration with the MG iSMART smartphone app. This allows owners to control vehicle functions, view its real-time location, plan routes, as well as provide over-the-air (OTA) updates to the vehicle.

The IM5 and IM6 both integrate AI technologies to assist their drivers.

Rainy Night Mode makes use of data from the IM5 and IM6’s 360-degree cameras — enhanced by AI — to identify pedestrians, vehicles and other hazards in low-visibility conditions, displaying them via the infotainment system.

Another highlight is One-Touch iAD, or AI Chauffeur, which allows users to find, park and reverse into, and pull out of spaces through prompts and commands on the IM5 and IM6’s touch screen.

Buyers can now reserve both the 2026 IM IM5 and IM6.
