Australian pricing and specifications have been officially confirmed for the 2025 MGU9 ute, with prices starting from $52,990 drive-away.

The announced starting price is lower than MG’s initial teaser suggested, which hinted at a price range between $55,000 and $65,000. As a result, the U9 undercuts the entry point of the related LDV Terron 9 for non-ABN holders by $684.

Power for all variants of the U9 range comes from a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine – producing 160kW and 520Nm – mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and a BorgWarner four-wheel drive system. All variants of the U9 have a 750kg unbraked and 3.5-tonne brake towing capacity.

The MGU9 range comprises three variants: the entry-level Explore, the mid-grade Explore X and the range-topping Explore Pro.

The Explore arrives as standard with front double wishbone and rear independent multi-link suspension, MG’s Smart Hatch system – allowing for cabin-to-tub access – 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather seats, and an ADAS safety suite.

With an 870kg payload, the Explore model grade has the largest payload capacity of the three variants.

The Explore X variant – priced at $55,990 drive-away – adds 19-inch alloy wheels, LED tub lights, electrically folding door mirrors, a heated steering wheel, an electrically adjustable passenger’s seat, heated front seats, a 360-degree camera, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, an acoustic windscreen, wireless phone charging and voice control.

It has the second-highest payload capacity of the range at 835kg.

The range-topping Explore Pro – priced at $60,990 drive-away – adds 20-inch alloy wheels, front on-demand differential locking, 64-colour ambient lighting, a 1080p 36-degree camera, black window trimming, black roof rails, an electric tailgate, an eight-way eletrically adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar, ventilation, memory and a massage function, real leather seats, heated rear outboard seats, and an eight-speaker sound system.

It has the smallest payload capacity out of the U9 range, at 770kg.

The MGU9 is expected in Australian dealerships by the end of the year.
