The upcoming MG S6 EV has officially been approved for sale in Australia, according to newly published government type approval documents. Issued on 28 May 2025, the approval is held by SAIC Motor Corporation Limited and is valid until 2032.
The documentation confirms the vehicle’s official model code as “IS3E” and categorises it as a passenger vehicle (MA class). It will be marketed in Australia as the “MG S6 EV.”

The approval lists four variants of the MG S6 EV, pointing to a mix of rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) layouts. These include configurations with either a 62.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery or a 77kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery.
The base 62.2kWh LFP battery is matched exclusively with a rear-wheel drive setup, while the larger 77kWh NMC battery is available in RWD or AWD configurations. The AWD variant is designated as the flagship grade in the approval listing.
Variant names such as “COM,” “LUX,” and “FLG” show MG's planned trim structure, with "COM" most likely representing the base "Excite" trim, “LUX” likely indicating the higher "Essence" trim, and “FLG” a flagship specification. These naming conventions align with MG’s existing product lineup, including the new MG S5 EV.
The S6 EV’s approval also includes compliance with all required Australian Design Rules (ADRs), suggesting a full suite of standard safety features and equipment will be offered.
Although interior or exterior design details were not disclosed in the approval documents, the model name and variant structure imply that the S6 EV will sit above the MG S5 EV in size and price. This positions it as a likely competitor to vehicles like the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7.
