2024 Chery Omoda 5 Introduces New Base Model with Lower Starting Price

2024 Chery Omoda 5 Introduces New Base Model with Lower Starting Price

Chery has announced a new entry-level model for its 2024 Omoda 5 range, the Omoda 5 FX, priced at $27,990 drive-away.

This represents a $6,000 decrease from the prior base model, the BX, which was listed at $33,990 drive-away.

This new price point positions the Omoda 5 FX competitively within the Australian market, relative to both more expensive and cheaper rivals.

The introduction of the FX model comes with some changes in features compared to the previous base model.

The Omoda 5 FX does not include some of the higher-end features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, an enhanced Sony sound system, and LED headlights, which were part of the BX model.

Instead, the FX model is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, fabric seats that incorporate synthetic leather elements, single-zone air conditioning, a six-speaker Sony audio system, and halogen projector headlights.

It retains several standard features including a 10.25-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, a similar-sized digital instrument display, and all the safety features that were present in the BX model.

The FX model is powered by the same 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is used in the BX and EX models.

This engine generates 108kW and 210Nm of torque and is coupled with a continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT).

The 2024 price adjustments also include a $500 reduction for the BX and GT AWD variants within the lineup.

The pricing strategy for the new FX model lowers the entry point to the Omoda 5 lineup, offering a different mix of features at a reduced cost, aiming to cater to budget-conscious consumers without compromising on essential functionalities.

Should Chinese Cars Be Banned in Australia?

Banning Chinese cars in Australia makes no sense. With no local car industry to protect, tariffs would only hurt consumers and limit choice.
