The Volkswagen Tayron and Tiguan plug-in hybrid models have been confirmed for Australia, and will be arriving in early 2026.
The Tiguan’s Australian lineup presently consists of petrol-powered options only, as will the Tayron’s from launch, with the eHybrid PHEV variants currently sold overseas.

The Tiguan and Tayron eHybrid PHEV models are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric drive motor paired with a 19.7kWh battery, and are available in either 150kW or 200kW guises. It has been confirmed that both of these powertrain options will be coming to Australia.
However, the Tiguan and Tayron eHybrids will not be positioned as flagship offerings, as is the case with the Touareg R.

“We will not be positioning this plug-in hybrid as we’ve done with the Touareg, which is like the flagship, kind of the leader of the pack,” said Director of Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles, Arjun Nidigallu at the local launch of the Volkswagen Tayron.
“But we are looking at multiple [model] grades in both Tiguan and Tayron. The power grades that have been made available to us have a total power output of 150 as well as 200, so there’s the two options we have, and we’ll have a combination of both Elegance and R-Line that we’ll be offering in both of our Tiguan and Tayron lineups.”
Local pricing and specifications are yet to be officially confirmed, although prices for both the Tiguan and Tayron PHEV models are expected to start between $60,000 and $70,000.
