Australian new vehicle sales reached their highest-ever July total in 2025, with 103,097 deliveries recorded, up 3.6% on July 2024. The growth came despite no change in the number of selling days, averaging 133.7 more sales per day than last year.

VFACTS data shows Mazda moved into second place on the year-to-date sales ladder, surpassing Ford. Mazda has sold 56,394 vehicles so far in 2025, compared to Ford’s 54,579, narrowing the gap in market share to 0.2 percentage points.

You can attribute Mazda’s move past Ford largely to Ford’s Ranger result, which fell nearly 20% year-on-year in July to 3,930 units, while Everest rose 12.2% to 2,425. Mazda’s year-to-date decline is smaller than Ford’s (-1.1% vs -4.9%), with no single Mazda nameplate spiking in July’s top 10, though the CX-5 retains it's number one status for the Japanese brand.

Toyota remained the clear leader with 142,700 sales year to date, holding 20.0% market share. Kia ranked fourth with 48,152 sales, followed by Hyundai with 45,635.

SUVs continued to dominate, accounting for 61.2% of sales in July, while passenger vehicles dropped to 13.5% of the market. Light commercial vehicles made up 21.8% of sales, and heavy commercials 3.5%.

By state, the largest year-on-year percentage growth came from the Northern Territory (up 10.6%), followed by Queensland (up 8.9%). South Australia and Tasmania recorded small declines of 1.4% and 1.0% respectively.

The Toyota HiLux retained its position as Australia’s top-selling model in July with 4,676 units, followed by the Toyota RAV4 (4,415) and Ford Ranger (3,930). The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro entered the top 10 with 2,065 sales. The Kia Tasman recorded a strong debut, with 653 4X4 sales in its first month on the market.
