Toyota has announced pricing and specifications for the first battery-electric HiLux, which is due to go on sale in Australia in May.
The new HiLux BEV will be offered in a two-grade range, with prices starting from $74,990 plus on-road costs for the SR double cab-chassis.
The range will also include the SR double-cab pick-up priced at $76,490, and the SR5 double-cab pick-up priced at $82,990. Premium paint is optional at an additional $675.

The HiLux BEV also commands a notable premium over comparable diesel variants.
Compared with the diesel line-up, the electric SR double cab-chassis is between $17,000 and $20,000 more expensive depending on variant, while the SR double-cab pick-up is $17,000 dearer than the diesel SR 48V automatic.
The flagship SR5 double-cab pick-up BEV is also $17,000 pricier than the equivalent diesel SR5 48V automatic.

Toyota says the HiLux BEV has been developed with fleet use in mind, particularly for government, mining and construction sectors. According to the company, local testing has included work with mining fleets in high-temperature and off-road conditions in Australia.
The HiLux BEV will launch exclusively as a double-cab with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout. Toyota says the front motor produces 82kW and 206Nm, while the rear motor produces 129kW and 269Nm. Combined system outputs are listed at 144kW and 468Nm.
Power comes from a 59.2kWh lithium-ion battery. Toyota says the battery supports up to 150kW DC charging, with a claimed 10 to 80 per cent recharge time of 30 minutes.

The vehicle also supports 10kW three-phase AC charging, with a claimed 10 to 100 per cent charge time of about 6.5 hours.
Claimed driving range is 315km on the NEDC cycle for the pick-up variants, while the SR cab-chassis is rated at 245km.
Toyota notes these figures were achieved under laboratory test conditions and may not reflect real-world driving results.
The HiLux BEV uses a unique suspension setup to package the electric powertrain, including frame reinforcements, MacPherson strut front suspension and a De-dion rear leaf spring arrangement.

Toyota also lists a maximum braked towing capacity of 2000kg across the range.
Externally, the HiLux BEV is distinguished by a closed-off upper grille and 17-inch alloy wheels.
SR grades include LED headlamps, a coloured front bumper, painted mirrors and door handles, a sharkfin antenna and side steps.
The SR5 adds upgraded LED lighting, heated and auto-retracting mirrors, rear privacy glass and exterior trim changes.
Inside, the SR comes with fabric upholstery, all-weather floor mats, a urethane steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, smart entry and start, and a 1500W inverter in the centre console box.

It also features a 12.3-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch multi-information display, embedded satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB+ digital radio, and USB-C ports front and rear.
The SR5 adds leather-accented upholstery, heated front seats, power adjustment for the driver, two-way lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging and an eight-speaker audio system.
Safety equipment across the range includes Toyota Safety Sense features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist, rear cross-traffic alert, road sign assist and automatic high beam.
Toyota also lists a panoramic view monitor, tyre pressure monitoring and eight airbags as standard.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations John Pappas said the HiLux BEV was an addition to the brand’s broader electrification strategy.
“Offering both Australian businesses and private buyers the choice of a HiLux with zero tailpipe emissions is a crucial step forward in providing consumers the right powertrain for the right application, at the right time,” he said.
Three exterior paint colours will be available: Glacier White, Frosted White and Ash Slate.
Toyota also says private customers who purchase or finance the HiLux BEV through a novated lease will receive a complimentary 7kW AC wallbox charger, excluding installation, subject to conditions.
