Mahindra will officially unveil its new XEV 9S electric seven-seat large SUV later this month in Bengaluru, India.

Specifically, Mahindra’s latest electric offering will be unveiled at the brand’s Scream Electric event on November 26th and 27th.

The XEV 9S will ride on Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform for electric SUVs, which it also shares with the BE 6 and XEV 9e.

Mahindra have published several teaser videos on their social media accounts, offering brief exterior and interior glimpses.

Exterior styling cues revealed thus far align with previously captured testing shots of the XEV 9S, including its front fascia, daytime running light and front light bar design, a lengthy glasshouse, and aero-cover wheels.

Interior teasers show a two-spoke steering wheel, electrically adjustable seats, a triple-screen setup for the digital instrument cluster, infotainment screen, and front passenger display, a Harman Kardon sound system, and what is possibly leatherette upholstery given the material's use in the BE 6 and XEV 9e.

No powertrain details have been officially confirmed for the XEV 9S, but it could use the same powertrains as its XEV 9e and BE 6 stablemates. Those models are offered with the choice of a 59kWh battery – paired with a 170kW/380Nm electric motor – or 79kWh battery and a 210kW/380Nm rear electric motor.

Mahindra are placing electric power as a top priority in Australia. The XEV 9e and BE 6 are expected in Australia eventually, although no official timeline has been confirmed.

“Electric vehicles are the way we are going right now,” said Mahindra’s Head of International Operations, Sachin Arolkar, at the Australian launch of the XUV 3XO back in July.

“...So those would be our top priority for Australia.”

If it were to come to Australia, the XEV 9S could be positioned as a cheaper alternative to the likes of the Kia EV9, Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Volvo EX90, which start from $97,000, $119,750 and $124,990 before on-road costs, respectively.

However, no official plans have been confirmed to bring the XEV 9S to the Australian market, leaving its local future uncertain.
