30,000 Fords Recalled for Software Safety Concerns

Nearly 30,000 Ford vehicles built between 2022 and 2024 are being recalled in Australia due to software issues relating to the rear-view camera, and in the case of the Everest, a serious safety issue with its windows.

A rear-view camera software issue affecting the Ford F-150, Everest, Ranger, Mustang, Mach E, Transit and Transit Custom Vehicles models, see 29,874 vehicles recalled by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.

The Ford Ranger is one of the models affected by the software issues

In this case, the rear-view camera may not display a rear-view image while reversing, posing significant safety risks.

“Due to a software issue, the rear-view camera may not display the rear-view image whilst reversing as intended,” the recall notice reads. “If the rear-view camera does not operate as intended while reversing the vehicle, it could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to persons located behind the vehicle.”

The Ford Mustang is one of the affected models

955 additional Ford Everests are being recalled due to a separate software issue affecting the window auto reverse function.

“Due to a software issue, if a vehicle occupant places an obstruction such as a body part in the window space when the driver or passenger side windows are closing, the window may not automatically reverse and may exert an upward force greater than the design intent,” reads the recall notice.

The Everest has also been recalled for an issue involving the automatic windows

The Australian Government Vehicle Recalls website notes that an incorrect software update may have been installed in a previous recall for a similar issue affecting the Ford Everest and Transit Custom Vehicles in October 2024.

The previous issue, affecting 38,423 vehicles, saw the window auto reverse function fail to operate until “significant pressure was applied”, according to the recall statement.

The Mach E, Transit and Transit Custom vehicles have also been listed in the recall

The original recall notice and affected Vehicle Identifications numbers (VIN) for the rear-view camera issue can be found here.

The recall notice and VIN numbers for the automatic window issue affecting the Everest can be found here.

Owners of impacted vehicles will be notified in writing in the case of both issues, with instruction to contact an authorised Ford dealer for a free of charge repair.

Vehicle Recalls also notifies customers to contact the Ford Customer Relationship Centre for more information.
