Mazda Australia has confirmed local pricing and grade specifications for the all-new Mazda 6e, the brand's first mainstream electric vehicle, ahead of its local showroom arrival in July.

The new lineup consists of two rear-wheel drive grades: the entry-level GT and the flagship Atenza.

Unlike Mazda’s previous internal combustion models built in Japan, the Mazda 6e is a product of the Changan Mazda joint venture in China and shares its "EPA1" architecture with the Deepal L07 (formerly SL03) liftback.

Pricing is highly aggressive, ranging from $49,990 to $52,990 (before on-road costs), positioning it well below key rivals like the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal Premium.

Mazda has sought to make an immediate impact with a sharp introductory offer for early adopters.

The first 300 customers to pre-order the entry-level GT grade will receive a complimentary upgrade to the range-topping Atenza, representing a saving of $3,000.

This strategy aims to establish a foothold in the competitive mid-size EV segment, leveraging Mazda's established dealer network against newer Chinese entrants.

While the Mazda 6e shares its fundamental hardpoints and powertrain with the Deepal L07 — a vehicle not currently sold in Australia — it features unique styling and bespoke suspension tuning.

The exterior design adopts a coupe-like silhouette with a practical liftback tailgate, blending the functionality of a hatch with the profile of a sedan.

Inside, the cabin moves away from traditional Mazda layouts to a minimalist design, dominated by a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and a 10.2-inch driver display.

Physical controls have been largely removed, with most functions, including climate control and window operations, accessible via the screen or the new "Mazda 6e" smartphone app.

The launch of the 6e liftback precedes the arrival of a second electric model, the Mazda CX-6e SUV, expected later this year.

The upcoming CX-6e will share its underpinnings with the Deepal S07 SUV, effectively creating a two-pronged electric lineup derived from the Changan cooperation.

Mazda Australia Managing Director Vinesh Bhindi described the 6e as the switch to a "fully electric era" for the brand, backed by a network of almost 150 locations.

Both Mazda 6e grades are powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor delivering 190kW and 290Nm of torque.

This powertrain is paired with a 78kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a WLTP driving range of up to 560km.

Charging capabilities are competitive, with the vehicle capable of DC fast charging from 30 to 80 per cent in approximately 15 minutes via a CCS Type-2 port.

Standard equipment is high from the base model up, with the GT featuring a 360-degree camera, wireless smartphone integration, and a 14-speaker Sony audio system.

The flagship Atenza gets upgraded materials, including tan leather and synthetic suede seats with quilted stitching, and a two-tone steering wheel.

Safety equipment is standardised across the range, including Smart Brake Support with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and a driver monitoring system.

Vehicles are available for pre-order now, with deliveries expected to commence in July 2026.

FAQ

Is the Mazda 6e just a rebadged Deepal L07?

keyboard_arrow_down

The Mazda 6e is a product of the Changan Mazda joint venture and shares its "EPA1" platform and electric powertrain with the Deepal L07 (formerly SL03). While the underlying mechanics are shared, Mazda has applied its own specific suspension tuning, steering calibration, and "Kodo" design language to differentiate the vehicle and align it with the brand's driving philosophy.

How does the Mazda 6e price compare to the Tesla Model 3?

keyboard_arrow_down

At a starting price of $49,990 before on-road costs, the Mazda 6e GT significantly undercuts the entry-level Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive, which typically sits above the $60,000 mark. It also competes aggressively with other Chinese-built rivals like the BYD Seal and GWM Ora Sport, positioning itself as a high-value alternative in the mid-size electric sedan segment.

What is the difference between the GT and Atenza grades?

keyboard_arrow_down

The mechanical specification is identical between the two grades; both feature the same 190kW motor and 78kWh battery. The $3,000 premium for the Atenza is purely cosmetic and material-based, adding Tan leather and synthetic suede upholstery with quilted stitching, a two-tone steering wheel, and specific suede dashboard trim.

Does the Mazda 6e use an LFP or NMC battery?

keyboard_arrow_down

The Mazda 6e utilises a 78kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. LFP batteries are generally considered more durable and chemically stable than Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) batteries, allowing them to be charged to 100% regularly without significant degradation, though they are typically heavier and less energy-dense.

Will there be a Mazda 6e SUV?

keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Following the launch of the 6e sedan (liftback), Mazda is expected to release the CX-6e SUV later in the year. The CX-6e will likely mirror the relationship between the sedan and the Deepal L07, sharing its platform and powertrain with the Deepal S07 SUV.

When will Mazda 6e deliveries start in Australia?

keyboard_arrow_down

Pre-orders are open immediately, with the first customer deliveries scheduled to commence in July 2026. The initial batch of 300 orders includes a complimentary upgrade from GT to Atenza specification.
