2026 GWM Tank 500 Price and Specs: 620Nm Diesel SUV Starts From $65,990 Driveaway
The 2026 GWM Tank 500 diesel has been priced for Australia, with Lux and Vanta grades, 620Nm, 3500kg towing and driveaway pricing.
GWM Australia has confirmed local pricing and specifications for the 2026 GWM Tank 500 diesel, with the seven-seat body-on-frame SUV starting from $65,990 driveaway.
Two diesel grades will be offered from launch, with the Lux priced from $65,990 driveaway and the Vanta priced from $71,990 driveaway.
Both use GWM’s new 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, producing 170kW and 620Nm.
Peak torque is available from 1400rpm to 2400rpm, with drive sent through a nine-speed automatic transmission and part-time four-wheel drive system.
The claimed combined fuel consumption figure is 7.1L/100km, tested to ADR 81/02, and the diesel Tank 500 does not require AdBlue.
Braked towing capacity rises from 3000kg in the existing Tank 500 range to 3500kg for the new diesel, with a 350kg maximum towball download.
Both grades list a 3395kg gross vehicle mass and 6545kg gross combined mass.
Payload is rated at 760kg for the Lux and 690kg for the Vanta.
The diesel Tank 500 arrives alongside an updated Cannon Alpha using the same new engine.
CarSauce has already driven GWM’s new 3.0-litre diesel, which is central to this latest model-year update.
GWM Australia Chief Operating Officer John Kett said the investment reflected the brand’s push to offer more than electrified powertrains in Australia.
“While many of the new Chinese automotive players are increasingly focused on electrification, GWM believes Australian customers deserve choice, and we’re not going to shy away from investing in diesel technology where we know demand is still strong,” Mr Kett said.
Local engineering and validation work has been led by GWM Australia’s Lead Product Dynamics and Integration Manager, Rob Trubiani.
GWM says Australian and Chinese engineering teams have completed more than six months of local development work covering ride and handling, engine and transmission calibration, towing performance and software.
Development vehicles have covered more than 35,000 combined kilometres in less than two months, including testing in the Flinders Ranges, Victoria’s High Country and the Big Desert.
Standard off-road hardware includes low-range gearing, all-terrain mode selection, front and rear differential locks, tank turn assist and crawl control.
The Tank 500 measures 5078mm long, 1934mm wide and 1905mm tall, with a 2850mm wheelbase, 220mm ground clearance and 800mm wading depth.
Cargo capacity is listed at 98 litres with all three rows in use, 795 litres in five-seat mode and 1489 litres in two-seat mode.
The Vanta’s main touring advantage is its 131-litre fuel tank, compared with the Lux’s 78-litre tank.
Exterior colours for the Tank 500 diesel are Marble White, Crystal Black, Onyx Silver and Dune Gold, with metallic paint listed at $595.
A limited-time launch offer gives buyers a $2000 driveaway cash bonus or a $2000 fuel card until 30 October 2026.
The diesel Tank 500 is expected to arrive at GWM dealerships across Australia from mid-September 2026.
Pre-orders are open, with GWM saying more than 1000 expressions of interest have been recorded across the new diesel Cannon Alpha and Tank 500.
