GWM Australia has confirmed local pricing and specifications for the 2026 GWM Cannon Alpha diesel, with the updated dual-cab ute due in showrooms from mid-September 2026.

The revised Cannon Alpha range will launch in two grades, Lux and Vanta, priced from $58,990 driveaway and $63,990 driveaway respectively.

Both variants use a new 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 170kW and 620Nm, matched with a nine-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

Peak torque is available from 1400rpm to 2400rpm, while claimed combined fuel use is rated at 7.3L/100km under ADR81/02 testing.

The new engine replaces the outgoing 2.4-litre turbo-diesel in the Cannon Alpha line-up and does not require AdBlue.

Braked towing capacity remains 3500kg, with an integrated trailer brake controller standard on both grades.

GWM says towing calibration has also been updated, including cruise control operation while towing, a towing drive mode and transmission tuning for heavy-load use.

The Cannon Alpha has undergone more than six months of Australian engineering and validation work led by GWM Australia Lead Product Dynamics and Integration Manager Rob Trubiani.

Development vehicles have covered more than 35,000 combined kilometres in less than two months across locations including the Flinders Ranges, Victoria’s High Country and the Big Desert.

GWM Australia Chief Operating Officer John Kett said the diesel investment reflected ongoing demand from local buyers.

“While many of the new Chinese automotive players are increasingly focused on electrification, GWM believes Australian customers deserve choice, and we’re not going to shy away from investing in diesel technology where we know demand is still strong,” Mr Kett said.

The Cannon Alpha diesel arrives as GWM continues to target Australia’s established ute segment, including the 2026 Ford Ranger, 2026 Isuzu D-MAX and 2026 Toyota HiLux.

The GWM’s driveaway pricing should be read against rival manufacturer list prices that generally exclude on-road costs.

A limited-time offer will also give buyers a $2000 driveaway cash bonus or a $2000 fuel card until October 30, 2026.

Metallic paint costs an additional $595.

Exterior colours for the Cannon Alpha diesel are Marble White, Crystal Black, Storm Grey and Onyx Silver.

The Lux uses black faux leather seat trim, while the Vanta receives black Nappa leather-accented trim.
