Renault’s performance arm Alpine isn’t content with competing against Porsche – now the French brand is going after Ferrari and McLaren.
At the recent launch of the A390 electric SUV – in which Alpine confirmed it was returning to the Australian market – the company’s boss also revealed it was planning to launch a supercar in 2028.
Previewed with the hydrogen-powered Alpenglow concept of 2024, the Alpine supercar will be powered by a turbocharged V6 hybrid powertrain, with dual electric motors on the front axle.

According to the UK’s Autocar, the all-wheel-drive model will produce an estimated 746kW, with a target weight of less than 1600kg.
“We are not selling electric cars,” said Alpine CEO Philippe Krief.
“We are selling sporty cars, passion cars, exclusive cars.”

It’s understood Mr Krief was involved in the development of the plug-in hybrid SF90 Stradale while he was at Ferrari – with the Italian supercar believed to be a benchmark for the Alpine.
However, it’s likely the Alpine will more closely rival the V6 hybrid Ferrari 296 GTB and McLaren Artura.
Despite Alpine returning to Australia, there’s no word yet on whether the company’s forthcoming supercar will be manufactured in right-hand-drive.
