The new Mazda CX-90, the automaker's latest offering in the three-row SUV segment, made its world premiere in Malibu, California. The vehicle boasts of a new level of luxury and premium design, making it a standout option for families.

Built on the same front-engine, rear-biased all-wheel drive platform as the upcoming Mazda CX-60, the Mazda CX-90 is wider, longer, and has a more aggressive profile. It will be available in Australia with exclusively hybridized powertrains, including an inline six turbo-petrol mild-hybrid electric vehicle and an inline six turbo-diesel mild-hybrid electric vehicle, which strikes a balance between performance and efficiency.

Under the hood, the Mazda CX-90 is powered by an all-new 3.3-liter inline six-cylinder e-Skyactiv turbocharged engine. This engine produces a maximum output of 254 kW and 500 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful mass-produced petrol car in Mazda's history. The engine is equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which helps to improve efficiency while retaining performance. The electric motor, located between the engine and transmission, allows for smooth acceleration from a standstill and provides direct power to the vehicle at low speeds.

The diesel alternative is a 3.3-liter e-Skyactiv turbocharged diesel engine that comes with the same inline-six configuration and mild-hybrid technology. This engine has a maximum output of 187 kW and 550 Nm of torque. Both powertrains are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that is designed for electrified longitudinal powertrains and large platform vehicles. The transmission provides smooth and direct acceleration while enhancing drivetrain efficiency.

The Mazda CX-90 features Kinematic Posture Control, which was first introduced in the Mazda MX-5. This technology suppresses body lift on tight turns, improves grip, and provides a more natural posture for all occupants. The body of the vehicle has been optimized for rigidity, and the seats and suspension have been designed to provide better balance, control, and confidence in various driving conditions.

The exterior of the Mazda CX-90 is characterized by sleek curves and chrome accents on the lower bumpers, which highlight its width and timeless style. The 21-inch diamond-cut wheels, finished in black metallic, add to the vehicle's powerful presence. The interior features an increased cabin space for families and ample cargo space, with high-quality materials such as Nappa leather, Maple wood, and tone-on-tone fabrics that provide a luxurious feel. The dash is adorned with a distinctive fabric inspired by hand-bookbinding and a Japanese weaving technique called Kakenui, further emphasizing the vehicle's Japanese heritage.

The Mazda CX-90 comes equipped with advanced technology and safety features, including available third-row USB-C ports, a large infotainment display, and a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. These features aim to provide drivers with a premium driving experience.
