Production of the new Fiat 500 Ibrida – or Hybrid – is set to commence in November at the Mirafiori plant in Turin.

The new Fiat 500 Hybrid will ride on the same platform as its battery electric 500e counterpart, and will be powered by a 12V mild-hybrid featuring a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine from the FireFly engine family and a six-speed manual transmission.

Like its BEV relative, the 500 Hybrid will be available in three body styles: A three-door hatchback, a cabriolet and a 3+1 arrangement featuring a rear suicide door.

The new variant is also set to sport a similar equipment list to the 500e, including a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Stellantis’ Uconnect 5 system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an ADAS safety suite.

The new Hybrid variant will mark the return of internal combustion-powered Fiat 500 production in Italy, with the outgoing 500 being produced in Poland, Mexico and later Algeria.

The Mirafiori plant is historic for Fiat, having built models like the 500B ‘Topolino’ and Fiat 1100 as far back as 1947.

More recently, the plant has produced the Maserati Levante and the Fiat 500e, although production of the latter was temporarily paused in late-2024 due to a lack of demand.

Fiat aims to produce 5,000 Fiat 500 Hybrids by the end of 2025 – with pre-production vehicles having already been built – with eventual plans to build 100,000 units per year out of the Turin facility.

A special edition Fiat 500 is also set to coincide with Hybrid’s production badged as the 500 Torino as a tribute to the city of Turin.

An Australian arrival for the 2026 Fiat 500 Ibrida, with local imports of the outgoing model coming to a close in late-2024.
