Denza, the premium new energy vehicle brand under BYD, will launch in Australia and New Zealand in November 2025. The brand confirmed its first two local models will be the Denza B5 and B8 plug-in hybrid SUVs.
CarSauce attended an international launch in Shenzhen earlier this year, getting behind the wheel of both models, known in the Chinese market as the Fangshengbao Bao 5 and 8, with full video reviews below.
The B5 is a five-seat SUV positioned against models like the Toyota Prado and Ford Everest. It measures 4890mm long and 1970mm wide, riding on a 2800mm wheelbase, and uses BYD’s DM-O plug-in hybrid system - similar to the BYD Shark 6 - with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, twin electric motors and a 31.8kWh Blade battery. System outputs are listed at 505kW and 760Nm, with a claimed 0–100km/h time of 4.8 seconds.
In China, the B5 is priced from RMB 289,800 to RMB 352,800 (approximately A$61,500–A$75,000). Final Australian and New Zealand pricing will be confirmed closer to launch.
The B5 features adaptive dampers, electronically locking front and rear differentials, a simulated low-range mode, and eight drive settings including Rock, Sand and Snow. Inside, it offers a 15.6-inch rotating central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch driver display, heated and ventilated seating, and physical controls for off-road hardware. Its battery supports fast charging up to 100kW, and EV-only range is quoted at 100km (WLTP).
The larger Denza B8 is a three-row SUV measuring 5195mm in length and 1994mm in width with a 2920mm wheelbase. Powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 36.8kWh Blade battery, the B8 produces 550kW and 760Nm, with a claimed 0–100km/h time of 4.8 seconds.
In China, the B8 is priced between RMB 379,800 and RMB 407,800 (approximately A$80,600–A$86,600). Local pricing for Australia and New Zealand has not yet been announced.
The B8 includes height-adjustable air suspension with up to 310mm of clearance, electronically locking front, centre and rear differentials, and multiple off-road drive modes. The interior features a 17.3-inch central screen, 12.3-inch driver and passenger displays, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, and an 18-speaker Devialet audio system. Configurations of six or seven seats are offered in China, though Australian specifications are still to be confirmed.
Mark Harland, COO of Denza Australia, said:
“This is a landmark moment in the Australian automotive industry. Denza will offer a whole new range for consumers wanting a slice of luxury and the latest in innovation.”
BYD previously launched the Denza brand in Europe earlier this year with the all-electric Z9 GT sport wagon. The expansion into Australia and New Zealand will mark Denza’s first right-hand-drive markets outside of China.
