BYD SEALION 7: Electric SUV Confirmed for Australia in February 2025

The BYD SEALION 7, an all-electric SUV, will launch in Australia in February 2025. While pricing has not been confirmed, it is expected to start at under $60,000 AUD for the Premium variant, based on the pricing of the BYD Seal sedan.

However, a cheaper RWD Dynamic variant may also join the range at under $50,000 in future.

BYD Australia stated the SEALION 7 will be “competitively priced to provide incredible value for customers seeking a premium electric SUV.”

CarSauce was amongst the first in Australia to review the all-new BYD Sealion 7 in China, which you can read here.

The SEALION 7 is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and incorporates the company’s Blade Battery technology, designed for enhanced safety and energy density. Two battery options will be offered: a 61.4 kWh battery for the base variant and an 82.5 kWh battery for higher trims, providing a maximum range of up to 570 km.

Three powertrain configurations are anticipated, starting with a single-motor rear-wheel-drive producing 150 kW, a 230 kW single-motor option, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model delivering 390 kW and 670 Nm of torque. The top Performance variant is expected to achieve 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Safety technology includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera system. David Smitherman, CEO of BYD’s Australian distributor EVDirect, said, “It sets a new standard for innovation and technology, and I challenge anyone to find a vehicle designed with comfort and performance like this one.”

Inside, the SEALION 7 features a 10.25-inch driver display and a 12.9-inch rotating touchscreen with support for wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and over-the-air updates. While the cabin includes soft-touch materials in key areas, harder plastics may be present in lower sections. Rear passengers benefit from spacious seating, USB ports, and independent climate controls. Cargo space is complemented by fold-down rear seats and a small front trunk for additional storage.

The BYD SEALION 7 will be offered in Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey, Shark Grey, and Aurora White. More details on Australian specifications and final pricing are expected closer to the launch. Expressions of interest are currently open online at BYDs website.

Predicted Pricing (Based on the BYD Seal):

  • Dynamic: Approx. $48,990 AUD
  • Premium: Approx. $58,990 AUD
  • Performance: Approx. $68,990 AUD
    (*Prices exclude on-road costs.)
