Mazda Australia has officially opened pre-orders for the 2026 CX-6e, marking the arrival of its first mainstream electric SUV.
The vehicle is expected to begin arriving in Australian showrooms from September 2026.
This launch follows the successful limited release of the Mazda 6e sedan, which sold out its initial allocation in two weeks.

The CX-6e range starts at $53,990 for the GT grade, undercutting the entry-level Tesla Model Y RWD by $4,910.
The range-topping Azami grade is priced at $56,990, sitting below rivals like the Toyota bZ4X and Kia EV5.
The first 1,000 customers to pre-order a GT will receive a complimentary upgrade to the Azami, representing a $3,000 saving.

The vehicle is the result of a joint venture with Changan, sharing its EPA1 platform with the Deepal S07 SUV.
While the hardware is shared, Mazda Australia has confirmed the steering and suspension have been specifically tuned for local road conditions.

The exterior introduces a design concept titled “FUTURE + SOUL x MODERN,” which sounds more like a niche R&B genre than an automotive philosophy.
Aerodynamic ducts are integrated into the front grille and rear pillars to improve airflow and enhance battery efficiency at highway speeds.

Inside, the 26.45-inch 5K touchscreen sits to the left (or right, in other markets) of the driver and is designed primarily for passenger use.
This passenger-centric digital layout mirrors the configuration found in the new Hyundai Elexio, which is also a product of a Chinese joint venture.

A 50-inch augmented-reality head-up display replaces a traditional instrument cluster to provide vital driving data.
The interior follows the Japanese concept of "ma" - or space - using a 2,902mm wheelbase to create an open, living-room-style cabin environment.

The CX-6e features a 78 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery and a single rear-mounted electric motor.
This setup produces 190 kW of power and 290 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in approximately 7.9 seconds.
The SUV offers a combined WLTP driving range of 484 kilometres and supports DC fast charging up to 195 kW.
Drivers can charge from 30 to 80 per cent in 15 minutes, provided they are using a compatible high-speed charger.

FAQ
How much does the 2026 Mazda CX-6e cost in Australia?
The range starts at $53,990 for the GT grade and $56,990 for the flagship Azami (MLP). This pricing is a strategic move by Mazda to undercut the entry-level Tesla Model Y RWD by nearly $5,000, positioning the CX-6e as a high-value alternative in the mid-size electric SUV segment.
What is the driving range and battery type?
The CX-6e is equipped with a 78 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a combined WLTP driving range of 484 kilometres. The LFP chemistry is notable for its durability and thermal stability, allowing owners to regularly charge to 100 per cent without the accelerated degradation often seen in other battery types.
How fast can the Mazda CX-6e be charged?
When using a compatible high-speed DC charger, the CX-6e can replenish its battery from 30 to 80 per cent in approximately 15 minutes thanks to its 195 kW charging capacity. For home charging, the standard 11 kW AC charger allows for a full overnight top-up in roughly 7.5 hours.
Does the CX-6e qualify for the Electric Car Discount and FBT exemptions?
Yes. Because both the GT and Azami variants are priced well below the $120,000 threshold for zero-emission vehicles, they are eligible for the federal Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption. This makes the CX-6e a highly tax-effective option for Australians purchasing through a novated lease.
How does the CX-6e differ from its platform-mate, the Deepal S07?
While the CX-6e shares the EPA1 platform developed through the Mazda-Changan joint venture, it is not a simple rebadge. Mazda Australia has conducted extensive local testing to recalibrate the steering, dampers, and suspension specifically for Australian road surfaces, ensuring the vehicle maintains the brand's signature "Jinba Ittai" driving dynamics.
What is unique about the interior screen and technology?
The cabin features a massive 26.45-inch 5K touchscreen that is positioned toward the passenger side of the dashboard, designed for co-pilot interaction. To keep the driver’s eyes on the road, Mazda has replaced the traditional instrument cluster with a 50-inch augmented-reality head-up display (AR-HUD) that projects navigation and speed data directly into the driver's field of vision.
