GWM Tank 300 PHEV Conquers Beer O’Clock Hill on Standard Highway Tyres
GWM's Tank 300 PHEV has conquered the Beer O’Clock Hill climb on standard highway tyres as part of a perfect 5-from-5 result for the brand.
GWM Australia has recorded a successful five-from-five result on the Beer O’Clock Hill off-road climb this month.
The testing included the brand's latest electrified models, the Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV and the Tank 500 Hi4-T PHEV.
Most notably, the Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV reached the summit in full production specification while fitted with standard highway tyres.
Other vehicles in the successful group included the Cannon XSR, the Cannon Alpha Hi4-T PHEV, and the Tank 300 Diesel.
The Cannon Alpha Hi4-T and Tank 300 Diesel utilised Mickey Thompson all-terrain tyres during their respective ascents.
Each vehicle involved in the testing completed the climb without mechanical modifications, software upgrades, or calibration changes.
The Tank 300 Hi4-T features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 120kW electric motor.
This system delivers a combined output of 300kW and 750Nm of torque through a nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission.
The Hi4-T architecture integrates a 37.11kWh battery, providing an electric driving range of up to 115km on the NEDC cycle.
Mechanical off-road features across the range include a ladder-frame chassis, a low-range transfer case, and locking differentials.
The Tank 500 Hi4-T variant also utilised during the climb features triple locking differentials and an 800mm wading depth.
GWM Australia confirms the Tank 300 Hi4-T will arrive in local showrooms in early April 2026.
Launch pricing for the Tank 300 Hi4-T starts at $55,990 drive-away for the Lux and $59,990 drive-away for the Ultra.
The Tank 500 Hi4-T is currently priced from $79,990 drive-away, with a limited-time launch offer of $77,990.
The Tank 300 Hi4-T is equipped with a 37.11kWh battery that provides an electric-only driving range of up to 115km on the NEDC cycle.
Yes, the vehicle supports 50kW DC fast charging, which allows the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes.
Both the Tank 300 Hi4-T and the Tank 500 Hi4-T maintain a genuine 3,000kg braked towing capacity, matching many traditional internal combustion competitors.
Despite its hybrid powertrain, the vehicle features a robust ladder-frame chassis, a low-range transfer case, and locking differentials (rear lock on Lux; front and rear on Ultra).
