The comprehensively upgraded BYD Atto 3 EVO is officially coming to Australia, promising substantially more power, greater driving range and much faster charging than the outgoing electric SUV.

BYD Australia has opened expressions of interest for the new model and lists it as “coming soon”, suggesting its local launch is not far away.

The company has confirmed the Atto 3 EVO will offer two different powertrains in Australia, but local variants, pricing and final specifications are yet to be announced.

In overseas markets, the Atto 3 EVO is available in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The rear-wheel-drive Design uses a single electric motor producing 230kW and 380Nm.
It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.5 seconds, while offering up to 510km of driving range under the WLTP combined cycle.

The flagship Excellence adds a second electric motor to provide all-wheel drive, increasing combined outputs to 330kW and 560Nm.
That cuts the claimed 0-100km/h time to just 3.9 seconds, although WLTP range drops slightly to 470km.

Both are significant improvements over the current Australian Atto 3, which uses a single 150kW front-mounted motor.

The existing Atto 3 Premium accelerates from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds and offers up to 420km of WLTP range from its 60.48kWh Blade Battery.

At the centre of the upgrade is a larger 74.8kWh lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery, paired with an 800-volt electrical architecture.

That allows the Atto 3 EVO to accept DC charging at up to 220kW, with BYD claiming a 10-80 per cent recharge can be completed in 25 minutes under suitable conditions.

The outgoing Australian Atto 3 Premium is limited to 88kW DC charging and takes a claimed 29 minutes to charge from 30 to 80 per cent, meaning the EVO should be considerably more useful on longer trips.

The new model uses the latest evolution of BYD’s dedicated e-Platform 3.0 and moves away from the existing model’s front-wheel-drive layout.

It also adopts a new five-link rear suspension arrangement, replacing the outgoing four-link design, while the Blade Battery is integrated into the vehicle’s structure using BYD’s Cell-to-Body technology.

Practicality has also improved despite the Atto 3 EVO retaining similar exterior dimensions.

Boot capacity increases by 50 litres to 490 litres, expanding to 1360 litres with the rear seats folded.
A new 101-litre storage compartment under the bonnet provides additional space for charging cables or smaller bags.

Overseas versions also increase their braked towing capacity to 1500kg and include vehicle-to-load functionality capable of powering external appliances at up to 3kW.

Inside, the Atto 3’s distinctive design remains, but BYD has redesigned the dashboard and door trims while moving the gear selector onto the steering column.
This creates additional storage space through the centre console.

The Australian model will receive a larger digital instrument display and an upgraded 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, although BYD has not yet detailed its complete local equipment list.

European versions also receive Google Maps, Google Assistant and access to the Google Play Store through the infotainment system, alongside Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Australian availability of the built-in Google services has not been confirmed.

Australian pricing is also under wraps.

The outgoing MY25 Atto 3 Essential and Premium are currently being offered with $2000 cashback as BYD prepares for the new model’s arrival.
The offer applies to vehicles ordered before July 31 and delivered before August 30, 2026.

Whether Australia receives both the 230kW rear-wheel-drive and 330kW all-wheel-drive versions remains to be seen, but BYD has confirmed the local range will include two distinct powertrains.
