BYD Shark 6 Range Expands: New 3.5 Tonne Towing Performance Model and Cab-Chassis Variant Confirmed
BYD adds a 350kW Performance model with 3.5-tonne towing and a $55,900 Cab-Chassis to its Australian Shark 6 ute range for 2026.
BYD Australia has announced an expansion of its Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute range to include three separate models.
The updated lineup introduces the trade-focused Shark 6 Dynamic Cab-Chassis and the range-topping Shark 6 Performance pickup.
These variants sit alongside the existing Shark 6 Premium pickup to provide different configurations for commercial and private buyers.
The primary technical difference between the variants is the displacement and output of the Dual Mode (DM) Super Hybrid powertrains.
The Shark 6 Dynamic and Shark 6 Premium models utilise a 1.5-litre turbo hybrid system generating 321kW and 650Nm of torque.
The new Shark 6 Performance model is equipped with a larger 2.0-litre turbo hybrid system that produces 350kW and 700Nm of torque.
This flagship powertrain enables a 0–100km/h acceleration time of 5.5 seconds, compared to 5.7 seconds for the 1.5-litre variants.
The Shark 6 Performance introduces a 3,500kg braked towing capacity, which is an increase over the 2,500kg limit found on the Dynamic and Premium models.
It also features a new "Crawl Mode" for low-speed off-road driving that maintains torque and limits speed to 20km/h.
This model is priced from $62,900 plus on-road costs and is scheduled for arrival in May 2026.
Existing Shark 6 customers are expected to receive the Crawl Mode feature via an over-the-air software update later in the year.
The Shark 6 Dynamic Cab-Chassis is currently on sale with a starting price of $55,900 plus on-road costs.
Designed for trade use, it can be fitted with an optional heavy-duty alloy tray manufactured by Ironman 4x4.
The tray accessory includes eight integrated tie-down points, two lockable storage boxes, and an optional trundle tray.
Pricing for the tray is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.
All models in the Shark 6 range utilise a 29.58kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery.
The vehicles feature 6.6kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability with multiple 230V outlets located in the cabin and rear cargo area.
The range carries a five-star ANCAP safety rating and includes a suite of active driving assistance systems.
Interior technology includes a 10.25-inch instrument display and a rotating touchscreen measuring 12.8 inches in the Dynamic or 15.6 inches in higher grades.
