XPENG has opened Australian orders for the 2026 X9, its flagship seven-seat electric people mover, priced from $89,900 plus on-road costs.

The X9 is XPENG's second model to launch locally and follows the XPENG G6 electric SUV into Australian showrooms.

Two variants are confirmed at launch, comprising the front-wheel-drive X9 FWD Standard Range and the dual-motor X9 AWD Performance.

The entry model uses a 94.8kWh LFP battery and has a claimed WLTP range of up to 535km.

The AWD Performance uses a 110kWh NCM battery, increases claimed WLTP range to 580km and offers up to 370kW and 640Nm.

XPENG claims a 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds for the AWD Performance.

Both variants are built on an 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform, with the AWD Performance capable of peak DC charging at up to 542kW.

XPENG says a 10 to 80 per cent DC charge can take as little as 12 minutes under test conditions.

Every X9 sold in Australia is fitted with Active Rear-Wheel Steering and intelligent dual-chamber air suspension.

XPENG quotes a 5.4-metre turning radius, a figure intended to make the large people mover easier to manoeuvre in urban driving.

The X9 is also the first XPENG model in Australia to use the brand's self-developed Turing AI chip, which delivers 750 TOPS of computing power for vehicle software, voice interaction and navigation visualisation.

That hardware sits within XPENG's broader local technology plans, which CarSauce has previously covered as part of the brand's Australian AI driving technology rollout.

Inside, the X9 has a seven-seat flat-floor layout, Zero Gravity second-row seats with 14-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage, and heated third-row seating.

Boot capacity is listed at 721 litres with all three rows in use, expanding to a claimed 2554 litres with the rear seating folded.

Other cabin features include Nappa leather-appointed seats, a 17.3-inch central display, 21-inch head-up display, 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen, 27-speaker XOPERA audio system and a heated and cooled refrigerator.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air software updates, dual 50W wireless phone charging and five-zone climate control are also included.

"A car this size is not supposed to drive this well," said Damian Royce, Head of Marketing, XPENG ANZ.

"The X9 combines the space and practicality of a seven-seat MPV with the refinement and confidence of a luxury SUV, using technologies such as Active Rear-Wheel Steering and intelligent dual-chamber air suspension to make it feel far smaller and sharper from behind the wheel."

Driver assistance is bundled under XPILOT Assist, using cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors to support adaptive cruise control, lane centring control, autonomous emergency braking and blind-spot detection.

Parking assistance includes enhanced auto parking assist, remote parking assist, auto exit parking assist and a 360-degree camera system with a transparent chassis view.

XPENG says XPILOT Assist is a driver assistance system only, and drivers remain responsible for the vehicle at all times.

Safety equipment detailed for Australia includes nine airbags, 16 intelligent active safety features, a 70.9-litre side curtain airbag volume and battery protection technology.

Private owners receive a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, while commercial-use vehicles are covered for seven years or 160,000km.

The traction battery, battery management system, drive motor and intelligent power unit are covered for eight years or 160,000km.

Service intervals are set at every 12 months or 20,000km, whichever comes first.

The 2026 XPENG X9 is available to order now through authorised XPENG dealers, with customer deliveries due to commence shortly.

Six exterior colours and three interior colours will be offered, with included data connectivity for maps and core vehicle software plus 12 months of unlimited data for entertainment services.
