2024 Mahindra XUV700 Long-Term Impressions: This Cheap 7-Seat SUV is ALL Australian's really need!

The Mahindra XUV700 has been a topic of much discussion and excitement in the automotive world. After initially impressing with its debut, the real question was how it would stand up to the rigors of long-term use.

Over several months of extensive testing, the XUV700 has proven to be more than just a flash in the pan, offering a compelling mix of features, performance, and value that demands a closer look.

At just $39,990, it represents incredible value for the price you pay. Here's our honest long-term impressions!

Exterior Impressions

At first glance, the XUV700 may not strike one as the most beautiful SUV on the market, but its design carries a certain charm and uniqueness that grows on you.

The dual daytime running lights and sequential indicators add a touch of sophistication typically found in more premium vehicles.

The bright LED lights ensure excellent visibility at night, particularly appreciated during country drives in Victoria.

The front grille, adorned with the new Mahindra logo and equipped with radar for active safety features, adds to the SUV's modern appeal.

While the white paint of our test model may not be the most exciting color available, the range of color options allows for personalization.

Interior Impressions

Stepping inside the XUV700 reveals a surprisingly luxurious environment, especially considering its sub-$40,000 AUD price point.

The cabin is bright, thanks to the white faux leather upholstery, and feels spacious and airy, a testament to the vehicle's thoughtful design.

Seat comfort is very strong, with plenty of adjustment and support which is what I appreciated most over the long term test.

The soft-touch materials and seat adjusters mimic those found in luxury brands, and the dual 10.25-inch displays provide a high-tech focal point for the interior.

Despite a minor hiccup with the infotainment system, which was promptly resolved by a dealership visit, the overall quality and durabilityof the interior components have been impressive.

The panoramic sunroof and effective air conditioning system are highlights, contributing to the cabin's comfort and appeal.

Shoutout to the Sony sound system - with a bit of tuning, it really sounds incredible!

Engine and Reliability

The heart of the XUV700, the new mStallion petrol engine, is a very new engine in the grand scheme of things.

While most manufacturers have stopped developing engines in favour of pure EV design, Mahindra is still dedicated to both.

Despite its recent introduction in 2021, the engine has demonstrated remarkable efficiency and performance.

Producing 149.2 kilowatts of power and 380 Newton meters of torque, it offers a perfect blend of power and efficiency.

Our long-term test revealed no significant reliability issues, a notable achievement for a newly developed engine.

Mahindra's commitment to innovation and quality is evident in the engine's advanced features designed to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy.

Driving Impressions

Driving the Mahindra XUV700 is an experience that speaks volumes about Mahindra's efforts to blend comfort, efficiency, and safety into one appealing package.

On the road, the vehicle distinguishes itself with a ride quality that strikes an excellent balance between softness for comfort and firmness for handling precision.

The suspension system adeptly absorbs bumps and imperfections, making journeys on rougher roads less daunting and more comfortable for all occupants.

The heart of the XUV700, its responsive engine, deserves special mention.

It delivers power smoothly and consistently, ensuring that the vehicle always has ample grunt for overtaking manoeuvres or for a spirited drive.

This responsiveness, paired with a well-tuned suspension, makes the XUV700 a pleasure to drive in a variety of conditions, from city traffic to open highways.

Steering in the XUV700 is engineered for ease and comfort. Its light and precise nature does not detract from the driving experience; rather, it enhances it, making the SUV easy to maneuver in tight urban spaces while remaining stable and reassuring at higher speeds.

Adding to the driving pleasure and peace of mind is the XUV700's suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

These technologies, which include features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot detection, work seamlessly to support the driver, making each journey safer and more relaxing.

The integration of these systems is intuitive, ensuring that drivers can leverage these technologies without feeling overwhelmed by them.

Fuel efficiency in the XUV700 is a highlight, particularly impressive for a vehicle that offers seven seats and substantial interior space.

This efficiency makes the XUV700 an economical choice for families and individuals who value the versatility of a seven-seater SUV but do not want to compromise on running costs.

The combination of a modern, efficient engine and thoughtful engineering means that long-distance travels can be undertaken without the constant worry of fuel stops, making the XUV700 an ideal vehicle for exploring new horizons.

In essence, driving the Mahindra XUV700 is a holistic experience that showcases the brand's commitment to delivering vehicles that are not just practical and efficient, but also enjoyable to drive and own.

The attention to detail in the driving dynamics, safety features, and overall vehicle design affirm the XUV700 as a strong contender in its segment, offering a compelling mix of attributes that resonate with drivers and families alike.

Final Thoughts

The Mahindra XUV700 has exceeded expectations in many areas, from its engaging driving experience to its robust feature set and compelling price point.

While not without its minor flaws, the overall package presented by the XUV700 makes it a standout option in the crowded SUV market.

It's a testament to Mahindra's dedication to producing vehicles that offer value, performance, and satisfaction to their owners.

Whether you're in the market for a family hauler or a versatile daily driver, the XUV700 deserves serious consideration.

Mahindra's investment in the XUV700, from its innovative engine to its thoughtful interior design, reflects a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction that is commendable.

As the SUV continues to win over critics and consumers alike, it's clear that Mahindra has successfully delivered a vehicle that meets the needs of today's drivers.
