Tesla Australia and New Zealand has officially confirmed the release of the six-seat Model Y L for both markets.

The vehicle is currently being produced at Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai for the Chinese market and will now extend to local shores.

This confirmation follows recent homologation approvals and industry speculation regarding the extended variant.

Tesla expects the Model Y L to become available to customers within the 2026 calendar year.

The Model Y L features an increased overall length of 4976mm, making it 186mm longer than the standard five-seat Model Y.

The wheelbase has been stretched to 3040mm, representing a 150mm increase over the base model.

These dimensions allow for the inclusion of a third row of seats in a 2+2+2 seating configuration.

The interior layout includes second-row captain's chairs equipped with heating, ventilation, and power adjustment.

The third-row seats are also heated, and the cabin features an upgraded 18-speaker stereo system and 16-inch infotainment screen as standard.

Tesla engineers have designed the configuration to meet existing safety standards for both occupants and pedestrians.

The Model Y L is expected to provide a maximum range of 681km (WLTP) from an 84kWh NMC battery, and will be powered by dual e-motors producing a combined 378kW of power.

The longer body profile should contribute to a higher range than the standard Long Range variant.

Mechanically, the L variant mirrors many specifications of the current Model Y Long Range AWD.

All new Tesla vehicles delivered from the start of 2026 include a five-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty.

Specific pricing and an exact arrival date for the Model Y L have not yet been released.

The current Model Y range starts at $58,900 for the Rear-Wheel Drive, $68,900 for the Long Range AWD, and reaches $89,400 for the Performance AWD, all excluding on-road costs.

The Model Y L is expected to slot between the Long Range AWD and Performance AWD price points.
