Genesis Magma GT Road Car Confirmed as Porsche 911 Rival
Genesis has shown its Magma GT and GT3 concepts at Le Mans, with a road-going GT expected around 2028-2029 and likely for Australia.
Genesis has shown the clearest sign yet that it wants to take on established high-performance sports cars, revealing the Magma GT and Magma GT3 Concept at Le Mans.
A road-going Genesis Magma GT is confirmed to be part of the brand’s future model plans, with timing expected around 2028-2029, though an exact launch date has not been locked in.
The model is also expected to come to Australia, giving Genesis a potential rival to cars such as the Porsche 911 once the production version arrives.
The Le Mans reveal builds on the brand’s wider Magma performance push, which recently included the GV60 Magma as its first high-performance production model.
The Magma GT Concept is as a two-seat luxury grand tourer with low-slung bodywork, wide guards and mid-engine proportions.
Inside, the concept uses a twin-cockpit layout, a driver-focused architecture, an analogue instrument cluster inspired by motorsport timing instruments and physical controls.
Genesis also revealed the Magma GT3 Concept at the same event, presenting it as a GT3-regulation study rather than a race car derived from an existing production model.
A GT3 racing entry would typically require a closer connection to a road-going model through homologation, which is why the confirmed Magma GT road car is significant.
Genesis says the Magma GT3 Concept was developed in collaboration with Hyundai Motorsport and remains under exploration, with its final architecture, components and development path yet to be defined.
The concept features widened tracks, a prominent front splitter, enlarged ducts, a door-mounted fin, a fixed rear wing and a diffuser, all aimed at endurance racing performance and cooling.
Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis, said: “The Magma GT Concept and Magma GT3 Concept represent two distinct yet connected expressions of Genesis performance.”
“The Magma GT Concept embodies our vision of luxury and athleticism on the road, while the Magma GT3 Concept translates that philosophy into the race environment, where every element is driven by performance, efficiency, and purpose.”
“Together, they demonstrate how Genesis is exploring the full spectrum of high performance - from refined grand touring to uncompromising motorsport.”
Genesis Magma Racing is also stepping up to the Hypercar class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the GMR-001 Hypercar, following the reveal of its Le Mans race livery.
The team is contesting the FIA World Endurance Championship and has already scored points at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in its debut season.
José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, said Genesis would use motorsport to inform its Magma performance vehicles and broader business.
“We’re bringing lessons from the track to our Magma performance vehicles and in how we run the business,” Muñoz said.
Beyond motorsport, Genesis is continuing its European expansion into markets including Italy, France, the Netherlands and Spain, with Poland, Austria, Portugal and Denmark also planned.
For Australia, the key point is the production Magma GT rather than the GT3 concept itself.
If it arrives locally as expected, it would give Genesis a dedicated performance coupe positioned well above its current passenger-car and SUV line-up.
Pricing, powertrain details and final specifications remain unconfirmed.
