An iconic Mazda RX-7 featured in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift has sold for the equivalent of almost $1.9 Million AUD at Goodwood.

The FD-generation Mazda RX-7 – featuring the now-legendary Veilside Fortune bodykit – was driven in the film by Han Lue, played by Sung Kang.

While meeting an unfortunate, fiery end in the movie, this RX-7 – used for stunt and static scenes – was one of two that survived the film’s production.

With 66,785 miles (107,480km) on the clock, this particular RX-7 is equipped with 19-inch Andrew Premier Series Racing 5 wheels, a Blitz Nur-Spec exhaust, an Alpine sound system, and – although not currently connected – a polished NOS bottle.

The twin-turbo rotary engine on this particular example features a near-stock tune producing 208kW.

The RX-7 commanded £911,000 at the Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed Auction – the equivalent of $1.87 Million AUD – making it the most expensive Mazda road-car ever sold at auction.

The most expensive Mazda ever to be sold at auction – regardless of road legality – was a 1989 Mazda 767B for $1.75 Million USD, the equivalent of over $2.67 Million AUD.

While this car did not win Le Mans outright – as the first Mazda to do so was the Mazda 787B in 1991 – the 767B still won the IMSA-GTP class at the race in 1990 in the hands of Takashi Yorino, Yoshimi Katayama and Yojiro Terada.

The Tokyo Drift RX-7 is now one of the most expensive cars featured in The Fast and The Furious franchise to be sold at auction.

In 2023, Paul Walker’s R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R featured in the fourth instalment sold for the equivalent of $2 Million AUD including auction fees.
