2026 Mazda CX-6e Arrives to Undercut Tesla Model Y: Australian Pricing and Specs Confirmed

Mazda Australia has officially opened pre-orders for the 2026 CX-6e, marking the arrival of its first mainstream electric SUV.

The vehicle is expected to begin arriving in Australian showrooms from September 2026.

This launch follows the successful limited release of the Mazda 6e sedan, which sold out its initial allocation in two weeks.

The CX-6e range starts at $53,990 for the GT grade, undercutting the entry-level Tesla Model Y RWD by $4,910.

The range-topping Azami grade is priced at $56,990, sitting below rivals like the Toyota bZ4X and Kia EV5.

The first 1,000 customers to pre-order a GT will receive a complimentary upgrade to the Azami, representing a $3,000 saving.

The vehicle is the result of a joint venture with Changan, sharing its EPA1 platform with the Deepal S07 SUV.

While the hardware is shared, Mazda Australia has confirmed the steering and suspension have been specifically tuned for local road conditions.

The exterior introduces a design concept titled “FUTURE + SOUL x MODERN,” which sounds more like a niche R&B genre than an automotive philosophy.

Aerodynamic ducts are integrated into the front grille and rear pillars to improve airflow and enhance battery efficiency at highway speeds.

Inside, the 26.45-inch 5K touchscreen sits to the left (or right, in other markets) of the driver and is designed primarily for passenger use.

This passenger-centric digital layout mirrors the configuration found in the new Hyundai Elexio, which is also a product of a Chinese joint venture.

A 50-inch augmented-reality head-up display replaces a traditional instrument cluster to provide vital driving data.

The interior follows the Japanese concept of "ma" - or space - using a 2,902mm wheelbase to create an open, living-room-style cabin environment.

The CX-6e features a 78 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery and a single rear-mounted electric motor.

This setup produces 190 kW of power and 290 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in approximately 7.9 seconds.

The SUV offers a combined WLTP driving range of 484 kilometres and supports DC fast charging up to 195 kW.

Drivers can charge from 30 to 80 per cent in 15 minutes, provided they are using a compatible high-speed charger.
