BYD has released full technical and equipment details for its smallest model yet, the 2026 BYD ATTO 1, ahead of its Australian launch next month.
Pricing is yet to be announced, but the model, known overseas as the Seagull, is expected to become Australia’s most affordable new electric vehicle when it arrives in showrooms at around $25,000 AUD.
The ATTO 1 will be offered in two variants, Essential and Premium, both using front-wheel drive and BYD’s Blade battery technology.
The entry-level Essential uses a 30kWh battery paired with a 65kW/175Nm motor, offering up to 220km of WLTP range, while the Premium model upgrades to a 43.2kWh battery and 115kW/220Nm motor for up to 310km of range.

Both use a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and are capable of DC fast charging via CCS2, with outputs of 65kW for the Essential and 85kW for the Premium.
According to BYD, AC charging (Type 2, 11kW) takes 3.5 hours for the smaller battery and 5 hours for the larger pack.
DC charging from 10 to 80 per cent is claimed at around 30 minutes, while the Premium model also includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.

In terms of performance, the Premium variant completes the 0–100km/h sprint in 9.1 seconds, compared to 11.1 seconds for the Essential.
Both models share compact dimensions, measuring 3,990mm long, 1,720mm wide, and 1,590mm tall, with a 2,500mm wheelbase that places it close in size to a Mazda 2 or Kia Picanto.

Inside, the cabin features a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, BYD App Suite with access to YouTube, Amazon Books and Disney+, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto (both wireless and wired).
A 7-inch digital instrument cluster, voice control, 4G connectivity, and over-the-air updates are also standard.
The Premium adds wireless charging, 6-way power adjustment for the drivers seat and 4-way power adjustment for the passenger, and heated front seats.

Safety features are extensive across both trims, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, and traffic sign recognition.
The Premium further includes a 360-degree camera.

The two variants share the same MacPherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension setup, with ventilated front and solid rear discs. The Essential rides on 15-inch steel wheels, while the Premium steps up to 16-inch alloys.
Exterior lighting differs by grade, with halogen headlights on the Essential and LED units with a full-width light bar on the Premium. Both include LED daytime running lights and follow-me-home functionality.

Inside, the Essential features synthetic leather trim, manual seat adjustment, and a multifunction steering wheel, while the Premium gains heated front seats, auto rain-sensing wipers, folding mirrors, and rear privacy glass.
Both grades are available in four colours: Sprout Green, Apricity White, Cosmos Black, and Arctic Blue, with a black and grey interior theme standard across the range.

BYD has not yet announced Australian pricing or final launch timing, though the ATTO 1 is expected to arrive before the end of 2025.
When it does, it will sit below the ATTO 2 and ATTO 3 in BYD’s local lineup, competing with small EVs like the MG 4, GWM Ora, and Fiat 500e.
