In a press release on November 3, 2023, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) announced that Australia has achieved a historic milestone with over one million new vehicles sold in 2023. FCAI Chief Executive, Tony Weber, praised this accomplishment, attributing it to the strong demand for a diverse range of vehicles across various price points.

Weber highlighted the robustness of the Australian automotive market, stating that the country reached one million sales in October for the first time ever. "This milestone speaks to the range of vehicles available to consumers, affirming Australia's position as one of the world's most dynamic and competitive markets. It also reflects vastly improved supply chains,” he said.

During the past six months, five months have set all-time sales records, with 106,809 new vehicles delivered to Australian customers in October alone. In terms of vehicle types, 38.3% of sales in October were either light commercial utes, large, or upper large SUVs, while electric vehicle (EV) sales represented 5.7% of the market.
