CUPRA Australia has confirmed local pricing and specifications for the 2026 Leon VZx Sportstourer AWD, adding a 245kW all-wheel-drive performance wagon to its local line-up.

The new Leon wagon is priced from $67,490 before on-road costs, or $72,490 drive-away nationally, with orders opening from late June 2026 and first Australian arrivals expected from September 2026.

It joins the refreshed Leon range introduced locally in late 2025, sitting alongside the Leon VZe Sportstourer plug-in hybrid and above the Leon VZx Hatch in performance terms.

The arrival gives CUPRA a rare entrant in the shrinking performance wagon space, at a time when many brands have shifted focus towards SUVs.

The Leon VZx Sportstourer uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 245kW, up from the 221kW output of the Leon VZx Hatch.

It is paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission and CUPRA's all-wheel-drive system.

CUPRA claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.8 seconds.

The drivetrain also includes rear torque splitting, which can actively distribute torque between the rear wheels, along with a dedicated drift mode.

CUPRA Australia Head of Product, Jeff Shafer, said performance wagons continue to appeal to a specific group of buyers.

"Performance wagons have always inspired passionate enthusiasts because they offer something genuinely unique - the practicality and versatility people need, combined with the driving experience they truly want," said Shafer.

"The Leon VZx Sportstourer is unapologetically built for those customers.
With 245kW, all-wheel drive and advanced torque vectoring technology, it delivers serious performance without asking drivers to compromise on everyday usability."

"In many ways it perfectly captures the CUPRA spirit.
It’s distinctive, emotional and designed for people who want something different.
We’re thrilled to finally bring this car to Australia."

Pricing and specifications

Standard equipment for the Leon VZx Sportstourer includes forged 19-inch Hailstorm alloy wheels, cross-drilled performance brakes, leather-appointed upholstery, heated front seats with memory functionality, Dynamic Chassis Control, a power tailgate and a Sennheiser premium audio system.

The exterior also adopts the updated Leon styling package, including the shark-nose front design, triangular lighting signature and illuminated rear logo.

A $7600 Extreme Package will be available from launch, adding CUP Bucket front seats trimmed in Enceladus Grey Seaqual and Dinamica upholstery with carbon fibre shells, Matrix Ultra LED headlights, dark gloss exterior accents and Akebono six-piston front brakes.

Other options include a panoramic sunroof for $2000, premium paint for $630 and matte paint for $2650.

The new wagon arrives after CUPRA previously offered run-out pricing on the outgoing Leon hatch ahead of the updated model range.

The Leon VZx Sportstourer will be backed by CUPRA Australia's five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and five years of roadside assistance.

Its launch comes as CUPRA works through a softer sales period in Australia.

VFACTS data shows CUPRA recorded 161 sales in May 2026, down 30.9 per cent from 233 sales in May 2025.

Year to date, the brand has sold 975 vehicles, down 22.2 per cent from 1253 at the same point last year, with market share sitting around 0.2 per cent.

The Leon recorded 67 sales year to date, down 38.5 per cent, while the Formentor was down 53.6 per cent to 318 sales.

CUPRA's newer SUVs have partly offset that decline, with the Terramar reaching 222 sales year to date after its local launch, while the Tavascan is up 138.5 per cent to 257 sales.

CarSauce has also covered the plug-in hybrid version of the Terramar SUV, which is due to expand CUPRA's electrified SUV range in Australia.

For the Leon line-up, the VZx Sportstourer adds a new flagship variant that focuses on petrol performance rather than electrification, while retaining the wagon body style that has become increasingly uncommon in Australia.
