Tesla Australia has officially opened orders for the first-ever Model Y L, a new long-wheelbase variant of the popular electric SUV featuring a three-row, six-seat configuration.

The Model Y L is physically larger than the standard Model Y, utilising a longer wheelbase and a redesigned roofline to accommodate the increased passenger capacity.

The new model is offered locally in a single, highly equipped Premium All-Wheel Drive specification.

Pricing for the Model Y L is set at $74,900 excluding on-road costs, with Australian deliveries scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2026.

The Model Y L features a wheelbase of 3,040 mm, representing a 150 mm increase over the standard five-seat model.

The overall vehicle length has grown by 177 mm to 4,969 mm, while the height has increased by 44 mm to 1,668 mm to provide more interior headroom.

A redesigned C-pillar and higher roofline distinguish the side profile, while the rear features a "Y" badge accompanied by two shadow lines to indicate the extended version.

The six-seat layout utilises a 2+2+2 configuration, featuring second-row captain’s chairs with electric adjustment, heating, and ventilation.

The third row provides two additional heated seats that can be electronically folded flat via the touchscreen or buttons in the boot.

Storage capacity is rated at 2,539 litres with all rear seats folded, and the vehicle features a flexible boot floor that can level off the surface for camping.

Second-row passengers also benefit from an 8-inch rear display and retractable cup holders beneath the centre screen.

The Premium All-Wheel Drive powertrain consists of dual electric motors producing a combined 378kW and 590Nm of torque.

The 0 to 100 km/h sprint is completed in 5.0 seconds, with a maximum top speed of 201 km/h.

The variant utilises a Lithium-Ion battery with Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) technology, offering a WLTP-rated range of 681km.

Charging speeds peak at 250 kW via DC fast charging, and the model introduces Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability to the local lineup.

Using a Tesla Adaptor, owners can power external devices at up to 3.3 kW or even charge another electric vehicle.

The Model Y L carries a 5-Star ANCAP safety rating and includes nine occupant airbags, including specific side airbags for the third row.

New mechanical features include continuous variable damping with selectable "Balanced" or "Rear Comfort" suspension modes.

Tesla has also introduced a new "Cosmic Silver" exterior paint and a "Zen Grey" interior trim option specifically for this variant.

The vehicle is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty for standard use.

The battery and drive unit are backed by a separate eight-year or 192,000km warranty.

Tesla also provides a 24/7 mobile tyre repair and loaner wheel service via the Tesla App.
