Mazda has officially unveiled the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5, marking the third generation of its popular mid-size SUV. The updated model introduces a more spacious cabin, larger cargo capacity, new technology, and revised styling.

Since its global debut in 2012, the Mazda CX-5 has sold more than 4.5 million units across over 100 countries.

In Australia, it has consistently remained a top-seller in the medium SUV segment, with more than 316,000 units sold locally.

The new CX-5 adopts Mazda’s latest Kodo design language, drawing inspiration from both functional fashion and Japanese woodworking techniques.

It gains a more angular front fascia and new lighting elements, aligning it visually with the larger CX-70 and CX-90 models.

Dimensionally, the 2026 CX-5 is 115mm longer and 15mm wider than the outgoing model, with a 115mm increase in wheelbase.

This size increase translates to improved passenger and cargo space, particularly in the rear of the vehicle.

Mazda says rear passengers will benefit from increased legroom, headroom, and easier entry due to wider door openings.

Cargo capacity has also been improved, with a longer and taller boot space and a reduced lift-in height for easier loading.

The cabin incorporates a minimalist design with ambient lighting and refined materials. A new available 15.6-inch integrated touchscreen is Mazda’s largest to date and supports customisable layouts and smartphone-style functionality.

Safety remains a focus, with the 2026 CX-5 featuring an updated suite of advanced driver assistance systems. Several new ADAS features will be included, although exact details are yet to be confirmed.

At launch, the CX-5 will come with a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated SkyActiv-G engine, producing 132kW and 242Nm. It pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard.

Mazda has confirmed that a hybrid powertrain is also planned, with further details to be announced closer to its Australian market introduction.

The model is expected to go on sale locally in 2026.
