Full pricing and specifications have been confirmed for the 2026 BYD SEALION 8, with the range starting from $56,990 before on-road costs.

The SEALION 8 arrives as BYD’s first seven-seat SUV for the Australian market, expanding the brand's local lineup into the large SUV segment.

It slots into the range above the mid-size Sealion 6 and the upcoming Sealion 5, serving as the flagship family hauler for the brand.

Positioned to compete with established seven-seat plug-in hybrids, the SEALION 8 enters the market at a lower price point than the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (starting at $69,200 before on-roads for seven seats) and the Mazda CX-80 PHEV (starting from $75,250 before on-roads).

The SUV utilises BYD’s fifth-generation Dual Mode (DM) 5.0 Super Hybrid technology and is available in three distinct variants: Dynamic FWD, Dynamic AWD, and Premium AWD.

All models are powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with a second-generation Blade Battery.

The Dynamic FWD uses a single electric motor and a 19.0kWh battery to produce a combined 205kW and 315Nm.

The AWD variants add a secondary 200kW/350Nm electric motor to the rear axle, significantly increasing combined output to 359kW and 675Nm.

These dual-motor models feature a larger 35.6kWh battery, delivering up to 152km of electric-only driving range on the NEDC cycle.

Charging is supported by a 7kW AC rate and a maximum DC fast-charging rate of either 40kW or 74kW depending on the battery size.

The vehicle also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) discharge adapter functionality as standard across the range.

Measuring 5,040mm in length with a 2,950mm wheelbase, the SEALION 8 offers a flexible cabin that can be reconfigured to provide up to 1,960 litres of cargo space.

Standard equipment across the range includes a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, and three-zone climate control with ceiling vents for all three rows.

Premium models feature a 21-speaker DiSound premium sound system and a 26-inch heads-up display.

Safety remains a priority with nine airbags, third-row ISOFIX points, and an electronic child safety lock included as standard.

AWD variants are equipped with intelligent damping suspension (DiSus-C) to balance handling stability and ride comfort.

Exterior paint options include Aurora White as standard, with Ridge Grey, Cosmos Black, and Dark Aquamarine available as cost options.
