The 2025 Jaecoo J7 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) has received a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). This rating applies only to plug-in hybrid variants sold in Australia and New Zealand, not petrol versions.
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV scored 81% for Adult Occupant Protection in ANCAP testing. The frontal offset crash test showed a stable passenger compartment with mostly Good protection, although Adequate protection was recorded for the driver’s chest and lower legs.

In the full-width frontal test, Good protection was observed for the driver, while the rear passenger’s neck and chest areas were rated Adequate. The side curtain airbag failed to deploy properly in the oblique pole test, leading to scoring penalties for both the side impact and oblique pole scenarios.

For Child Occupant Protection, the J7 achieved a score of 85%. The frontal offset test showed Good protection for most body regions except the neck of the 10-year-old dummy, which was rated Adequate.
The side impact test returned full marks, and ISOFix/top tether anchorages are standard on the rear outboard seats. A direct child presence detection system is fitted but did not meet ANCAP's performance requirements.

The Jaecoo J7 scored 80% for Vulnerable Road User Protection and 84% for Safety Assist features. Its autonomous emergency braking system performed well in detecting vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

A cyclist dooring alert is fitted but did not meet timing requirements for ANCAP points. Lane support systems performed effectively, although some improvements in lane keeping implementation were noted.
The J7 is equipped with intelligent speed assistance, adaptive cruise control, and a driver monitoring system that met criteria for detecting drowsiness. ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg noted the model “demonstrated good levels of occupant protection” in its first local assessment.
The five-star safety rating applies to Jaecoo J7 plug-in hybrid models released in May 2025. Petrol variants have not been tested and are currently unrated by ANCAP.
