2026 Forthing Taikon 5 Price and Specs: EV and Range-Extender SUV from $36,990 Drive-Away
Forthing has confirmed Australian pricing and specifications for the Taikon 5 BEV and Range Extender Hybrid SUV range.
Forthing has confirmed Australian pricing and specifications for its Taikon 5 SUV range, with battery-electric and range-extender hybrid versions due in local showrooms later this month.
The four-model MY26 line-up will launch the Forthing brand in Australia, priced from $36,990 to $42,490 drive-away.
The Taikon 5 arrives as the brand's first local model after CarSauce previously covered Forthing's Australian rollout.
Forthing is part of Dongfeng Motor Group and is being introduced locally by Ateco Group, the independent distributor behind a number of emerging and established vehicle brands in Australia.
A Forthing showroom network has been established in every Australian state.
The Taikon 5 BEV and Range Extender Hybrid share the same core interior and exterior design, with tailgate badging identifying the powertrain.
Both powertrains will initially be available in Luxury and Exclusive grades.
The BEV uses a 150kW and 340Nm front-mounted electric motor and a 64kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery, with a claimed WLTP range of up to 427km.
The Range Extender Hybrid uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine to power a generator, while a 120kW and 240Nm electric motor drives the front wheels.
Forthing claims the Range Extender Hybrid can travel up to 170km on electric power and up to 937km using petrol and electric power combined.
Both powertrains support vehicle-to-load functionality at up to 3.5kW and DC fast charging from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes.
"We are pleased to offer Australian new-car buyers a range of affordable options in the booming new-energy vehicle class," said Shaun Garrard, National Manager of Forthing in Australia.
In price terms, the range opens against small and medium electrified SUV competition including the 2026 Jaecoo J5 EV, 2026 MG MGS5 and 2026 Leapmotor C10 REEV.
The Taikon 5 is covered by a seven-year, 200,000km warranty, while service intervals are 12 months or 15,000km for the Range Extender Hybrid and 12 months or 20,000km for the BEV.
