2025 Genesis G80 Features New Range and Extended Body

Genesis presented the updated Electrified G80 at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show in South Korea.

The model, set to compete with the Tesla Model S, BMW i5, and Mercedes-Benz EQE, will be available in Australia in Q3 2024.

The 2025 version includes a larger battery and a longer wheelbase, along with several technological updates.

This release follows the petrol G80’s scheduled July arrival.

Prices are expected to increase from the previous model’s $144,247 before on-road costs.

The new G80 Electrified extends its wheelbase by 130mm to 3137mm to accommodate the larger battery.

The updated 95.4kWh battery replaces the previous 87.2kWh unit, potentially increasing the range by 21km based on Korean standards, although the WLTP range remains at 520km.

Externally, the G80 includes a redesigned front grille, MLA adaptive headlights, and an updated rear bumper with hidden exhaust outlets.

A 20-inch alloy wheel option is now available.

Inside, the G80 features a 27.0-inch OLED display for driver instruments and infotainment, replacing the previous dual-screen setup.

The model will support Genesis Connected Car Services, enabling remote functions via a smartphone app, and a new power-operated charging port.

The longer wheelbase also provides more rear seat space, with new reclining seats, leg rests, and a seat-position memory function in the South Korean version.

There are no confirmed changes to the Electrified G80’s powertrain, which continues to use dual 136kW electric motors for a total output of 272kW and 700Nm of torque.

Genesis has suggested the possibility of a high-performance version and announced a new performance division, ‘Magma,’ though specific details are not yet available.

An updated GV70 SUV is expected by the end of 2024 following this release.

Should Chinese Cars Be Banned in Australia?

Banning Chinese cars in Australia makes no sense. With no local car industry to protect, tariffs would only hurt consumers and limit choice.
