2025 Camry Hybrid Arrives in Australia with Hybrid-Only Lineup and Significant Facelift

Toyota has launched the 2025 Toyota Camry in Australia, introducing a hybrid-only lineup that includes a heavy facelift. This new model is expected to continue its popularity, especially among ride-share drivers like Uber operators, due to its fuel efficiency and reliability. The updated Camry features Toyota’s fifth-generation 2.5-litre Hybrid Electric powertrain, which improves power, fuel efficiency, and driving dynamics. The new system delivers a combined power output of 170kW and a fuel consumption rate of 4.0L per 100km.

The 2025 Camry’s exterior design has been significantly refreshed with Toyota’s Hammer Head design language, giving it a sleeker, more modern appearance. The front overhang has been extended by 35mm, increasing the car’s overall length while maintaining the same 2825mm wheelbase. The bold styling includes new aerodynamic elements at the front and rear, with character lines that converge at the rear for a more dynamic profile.

Inside, the Camry offers a reworked cabin focused on practicality. The sculpted dashboard and door trims create a seamless design, with the use of high-quality materials. The interior features either a 7-inch or 12.3-inch digital instrument display, depending on the model, offering customizable driving information. The latest-generation multimedia system includes cloud-based satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and compatibility with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, displayed on either an 8-inch or 12.3-inch touchscreen, depending on the grade.

Safety has been a key priority for Toyota, and the 2025 Camry is equipped with the full suite of Toyota Safety Sense technology across all models. Enhancements include improved road user detection and updates to active cruise control, as well as new safety features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, emergency driver support, and safe exit assist.

The new 2.5-litre Hybrid Electric powertrain is exclusive to the 2025 Camry and combines a 138kW petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor on the front axle. Significant revisions have been made to the powertrain, including a more compact and lighter transaxle and an increase in motor generator power by 12kW. These upgrades result in improved fuel efficiency, better dynamic performance, and reduced noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).

The suspension system has also been fine-tuned, with adjustments made to the front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension to improve handling without compromising ride quality. The electric power steering system has been further refined for a lighter and more responsive feel, while the braking system benefits from an electronic control brake with an active hydraulic booster. Regenerative braking has been optimized to improve energy recovery.

Despite the significant updates, the Camry retains its front-wheel-drive layout and uses an electronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Drivers can choose from Normal, Eco, Sport, and EV driving modes. The EV mode allows for short-distance, low-speed driving on electric power alone.

The 2025 Camry is available in three model grades: Ascent, Ascent Sport, and SL. The entry-level Ascent, priced at $39,990, includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8-inch multimedia display.

The Ascent Sport, starting at $42,990, adds high-grade LED headlamps and tail-lamps, LED fog lamps, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, a wireless smartphone charger, and a larger 12.3-inch multimedia display.

The top-of-the-line SL, priced at $53,990, includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic rain-sensing wipers, privacy glass, and heated side mirrors with reverse and memory functions. The interior features leather-accented upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, and a nine-speaker JBL audio system.

Each model comes with a 12-month complimentary subscription to Toyota Connected Services, which offers additional connectivity features via the Camry’s built-in data communication module. Toyota Warranty Advantage provides five years of unlimited kilometre coverage, with up to seven years of coverage for the engine and transmission. Toyota Service Advantage includes capped-price servicing for five years, with service intervals every 12 months or 15,000 kilometres, priced at $255 per service.

The 2025 Toyota Camry is available in eight exterior colours: Glacier White, Frosted White, Silver Pearl, Liquid Mercury, Eclipse Black, Jasper Red, Precious Bronze, and Saturn Blue. With its updated design, hybrid technology, and new features, the Camry is set to remain a strong option in Australia’s mid-sized sedan market, especially among ride-share drivers.
