Mitsubishi has confirmed Australian pricing and specifications for the revived Pajero, with the large off-road SUV due in showrooms from December 2026.

The 2026 Mitsubishi Pajero range will start from $68,490 before on-road costs for the GLS five-seat, with a seven-seat GLS priced from $69,990 before on-road costs.

The higher-grade EXCEED is priced from $79,990 before on-road costs, while the GSR tops the launch range at $84,990 before on-road costs.

The Pajero name returns after the previous model ended production in March 2021, ending a four-generation run for one of Mitsubishi’s best-known off-road nameplates.

CarSauce previously reported the return timing for the Pajero, but Mitsubishi has now locked in the Australian range, powertrain, towing capacity and grade structure.

The previous Pajero used monocoque construction, making it unusual among traditional off-road wagons, but the new model moves to a body-on-frame layout.

Mitsubishi says the new Pajero is not a rebadged Pajero Sport, despite its relationship to the Triton architecture.

Mitsubishi says only the front section of the ladder frame and front floor are common with Triton, with most other major components renewed or modified for Pajero.

That positioning gives Mitsubishi a price point below full-size off-road SUVs such as the 2027 Nissan Patrol and 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series, while also starting below the current Toyota LandCruiser Prado 250 Series range.

The new Pajero will also compete in the broader off-road wagon space occupied by the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited CEO Shunichi Kihara said the Pajero remains central to the brand’s identity.

"For four generations, the Pajero has defined Mitsubishi.
It has stood out for its capability, comfort and sheer dependability, showcasing the best Mitsubishi has to offer," Mr Kihara said.

"The All-New Pajero takes the Pajero backstory and modernises it.
It maintains its flagship position in the global Mitsubishi hierarchy, combining Pajero’s core attributes and applying it in a way that defines modern ‘Mitsubishiness’."

"Interest has been exceptional, with over 3000 pre-registrations already received," he said.

Pricing and key specifications

All Australian Pajero variants use Mitsubishi’s latest 4N16 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine.

Outputs are listed at 150kW and 480Nm, which is 10Nm more than the Triton application of the same engine family.

The engine uses a variable-geometry turbocharger, water-cooled intercooler, dual-loop EGR, AdBlue and electric fan cooling.

It meets Euro 6d emissions standards, which Mitsubishi says is a first for one of its engines.

The diesel is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the six-speed automatic layout used in older Mitsubishi off-road models.

A low-range transfer case and rear differential lock are standard across the range.

Mitsubishi’s Super Select II 4WD system is also standard, supported by Super-All Wheel Control, Active Yaw Control and seven drive modes.

The selectable driveline modes include rear-wheel drive high range, four-wheel drive high range, locked-centre 4WD high range and locked-centre 4WD low range.

Available drive modes include Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock, depending on the selected driveline setting.

Mitsubishi says the ladder-frame structure was chosen for strength, durability and noise and vibration isolation.

To help offset the weight of the frame-based construction, the Pajero uses about 50 per cent high-tensile steel in the frame, along with an aluminium bonnet.

The suspension layout comprises front wishbones with coil springs and a rear five-link torque arm arrangement.

The new Pajero measures 4920mm long and 1925mm wide, with height listed at either 1900mm or 1910mm depending on variant.

Braked towing capacity is 3500kg, while roof load is rated at 300kg static and 100kg dynamic.

Trailer Load Assist can adjust power and braking to individual wheels if trailer sway is detected.

Inside, the Pajero is offered in five-seat form only on the entry GLS, while GLS, EXCEED and GSR variants are available with seven seats.

The second row slides through a 150mm range to adjust legroom for second- and third-row occupants.

With the third row folded, Mitsubishi lists luggage capacity at 519 litres using the VDA measurement, with an additional 10-litre underfloor cargo box.

GLS variants use a 12.3-inch centre touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

EXCEED and GSR variants step up to a 14.3-inch centre display and 14.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are standard across the range, along with Mitsubishi Connect services.

The Pajero also brings back a digital off-road display with an altimeter, pitch and roll readouts, compass and Active Yaw Control status, following earlier detail on the Multi Meter display.

A Multi Around View Monitor and bonnet see-through camera are standard.

EXCEED and GSR grades add a 12-speaker Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate audio system with amplifier and subwoofer.

Safety equipment is common across the range and includes adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian and cyclist detection, rear autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot warning, lane change assist, emergency lane assist, driver monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert and child presence detection.

Airbag coverage includes front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger, a front centre airbag, driver knee airbag, curtain airbags for the first and second rows, and third-row curtain airbags on seven-seat variants.

• GLS standard equipment includes 18-inch dark grey alloy wheels, mud and snow tyres, LED exterior lighting, black roof rails, waterproof black fabric trim, heated steering wheel, electric tailgate, dual-zone front climate control, rear automatic air conditioning, wireless phone charging, USB-C ports and a six-speaker audio system.
• EXCEED adds 20-inch machined alloy wheels, black leather trim, heated front and rear seats, larger 14.3-inch screens, second-row pull-up sunshades, a refrigerated console box and the 12-speaker Yamaha audio system.
• GSR adds 20-inch black alloy wheels, two-tone black and camel leather trim, ventilated front seats, memory for the front seats, steering wheel and mirrors, black exterior detailing, lamp animation, a black panoramic roof with sunroof, adaptive driving beam, digital rear-view mirror and nanoe X air purification.

Mitsubishi has not confirmed any additional engine options for launch, with no petrol V6, hybrid or plug-in hybrid Pajero locked in for Australia at this stage.

A Ralliart or Dakar-inspired Pajero variant has also not been confirmed.

Mitsubishi says accessories developed with input from its Australian engineering team will be detailed before launch.

The new Pajero will be covered by Mitsubishi’s 10-year or 200,000km Diamond Advantage warranty when servicing conditions are met, with 10 years of capped-price servicing and up to 10 years of roadside assistance also available under the program.

If servicing conditions are not met, the warranty reverts to five years or 100,000km.
