Range Rover GT Previewed as Electric Grand Tourer on New EMA Platform

Range Rover has previewed the GT, a new all-electric grand tourer that will become the fifth model of the Range Rover lineup.

The new model marks a notable shift for a brand best known for SUVs, with Range Rover positioning the GT as its most car-like vehicle yet while still promising all-terrain capability.

The Range Rover GT will be the first all-electric Range Rover model to use the new EMA platform and will be manufactured at Halewood in the UK.

Range Rover says the GT will launch initially as a battery-electric vehicle, with a full hybrid electric vehicle option planned later in the model lifecycle.

Prototype vehicles are now completing final global testing in camouflage, with the wrap using gold topographic-style graphics inspired by the landscape around Gaydon, where Range Rover’s creative and engineering teams are based.

The preview comes as electric and electrified models continue to reshape the Australian market, with CarSauce recently reporting record electrified market share.

Inside, the GT uses a reduced dashboard layout with a new single screen design paired with a driver display in place of a traditional instrument cluster.

A concealed air vent runs across the width of the cabin, while a woven textile wraps the dashboard and is designed to hide speakers within its structure.

Range Rover also claims class-leading second-row legroom, although detailed dimensions have not been released.

Martin Limpert, Managing Director, Range Rover, said: "The Range Rover GT will redefine the grand-touring segment with the ability to deliver beautiful and engaging GT poise, proportions and long-distance refinement while offering capabilities no conventional GT can match."

Limpert said the model was intended to reinterpret the grand tourer formula through Range Rover’s electrified EMA architecture.

He added: "The result is the most car-like, yet unmistakably capable, Range Rover ever created, now possible on our electrified EMA architecture - complementing our existing powertrain portfolio to deliver a complete set of options for every customer need."

Range Rover has not detailed battery capacity, driving range, charging speed, performance figures, exterior dimensions or pricing for the GT.

The brand has also not confirmed Australian launch timing.

More information on the Range Rover GT is due later this year, when the production model’s positioning against the existing Range Rover line-up should become clearer.
