2026 BMW iX3 40 Price and Specs: New $89,900 EV With 635km of Range
BMW Australia has confirmed the iX3 40, a new rear-drive entry variant with up to 635km of WLTP range and Q4 2026 deliveries.
BMW Australia will add a new entry variant to its Neue Klasse electric SUV line-up, with the 2026 BMW iX3 40 due in local showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Priced from $89,900 before on-road costs, the iX3 40 will sit beneath the iX3 50 xDrive that begins its Australian market arrival this month.
That makes the rear-drive iX3 40 $19,100 cheaper than the $109,000 iX3 50 xDrive, based on manufacturer list pricing.
The new variant follows the initial BMW iX3 pricing announcement and broadens the range with a single-motor model.
The iX3 40 uses BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle.
Outputs are rated at 235kW and 500Nm, with BMW claiming a 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds and a 200km/h top speed.
The high-voltage battery has 82.6kWh of usable capacity and uses cylindrical lithium-ion cells, which BMW says provide around 20 per cent higher energy density than its previous prismatic cells.
BMW claims up to 635km of WLTP driving range for the iX3 40.
The electric SUV uses an 800-volt electrical architecture and supports DC fast charging at up to 300kW.
BMW says a 10 to 80 per cent charge takes 21 minutes, while 10 minutes of charging can add up to 300km of range under optimal conditions.
BMW Australia says local cars will include 22kW AC Charging Professional, with a 0 to 100 per cent AC charge taking about four hours and 15 minutes at that rate.
Inside, the iX3 40 uses BMW Panoramic iDrive and BMW Operating System X, with information projected across a display area spanning from A-pillar to A-pillar.
The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant also includes Amazon Alexa+ integration.
The Neue Klasse electrical architecture uses four high-performance central computers, which BMW says deliver more than 20 times the processing power of its previous systems.
A control unit called Heart of Joy manages driving dynamics through BMW Dynamic Performance Control software and is claimed to react up to 10 times faster than earlier architectures.
Standard equipment for the iX3 40 is described as mirroring the iX3 50 xDrive, including 20-inch wheels, M Sport Package, BMW Panoramic Vision, Parking Assistant Plus and Driving Assistant Plus.
The iX3 range will also gain a wider choice of paint, upholstery and wheel options from July production, including BMW Individual colours and optional 21-inch or 22-inch wheels.
Full towbar details are still to be confirmed.
BMW Australia says its electric vehicle range now covers 11 fully electric variants across seven models, with six of those variants positioned below the Luxury Car Tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles.
