Collecting Cars will auction a 1982 Toyota LandCruiser HJ47 Troop Carrier that once belonged to the late Steve Irwin. The long wheelbase 4WD was a familiar sight at Queensland’s Australia Zoo, where it performed duties during Irwin’s conservation work.

Powered by a 4.9-litre Cleveland Ford V8 and showing more than 415,000 kilometres, the vehicle carries unique chassis and body details, including evidence of ute components and additional cab supports. An aluminium bull bar fitted during its time at the zoo remains in place.

The Troop Carrier is finished in white and features green “The Crocodile Hunter™” lettering on the sides and bonnet. Its provenance is supported by a history booklet and a signed letter from Robert Irwin.
The vehicle first gained broader public attention in 2013 when it was unexpectedly listed for sale on eBay by Australia Zoo, appearing among Crocodile Hunter memorabilia. A Sunshine Coast family secured the winning bid and later began restoring it, recognising its cultural significance as part of Irwin’s legacy.

Online bidding for the LandCruiser opens Sunday, 24 August 2025, and will close on Monday, 1 September 2025.
