Nissan has announced its forthcoming product line-up for the Australian market, with the electric Ariya leading the charge.

Nissan says the Ariya will launch either late this year or early 2026, to be followed by the new Patrol, Navara, electric Leaf, and Qashqai within the next two years.

Curiously, Nissan’s announcement didn’t outright name the Navara, but instead referred to it as an “all-new one-ton pick-up,” while mentioning its partnership with Mitsubishi – with the Navara to be based on the current Mitsubishi Triton.

The Navara and Triton twins were developed as part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, with the utes expected to share a 2.4-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine – making 150kW and 470Nm in the Triton.

Australia is set to be the first right-hand-drive market to receive the all-new Patrol, with the model to be powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 317kW and 700Nm – improving on the outgoing 5.6-litre V8’s 298kW and 560Nm.

The Qashqai is also set to be updated, utilising Nissan’s third-generation e-Power technology, which has the vehicle driven using electric motors, while a dedicated 1.5-litre petrol engine acts as a generator to supply power.

Nissan says its third-generation e-Power set-up will provide up to 15 per cent better fuel economy at high speeds, while also delivering lower tailpipe emissions.

The Japanese carmaker will also launch two new electric vehicles in Australia within the next 24 months: the Nissan Ariya SUV, and the third-generation Nissan Leaf – which has evolved from a city-sized hatchback to an SUV.

Despite going into production in 2020, there have been ongoing delays securing the Ariya for the Australian market.

While details of the Ariya range will be announced closer to its launch locally, overseas buyers are offered a front-wheel-drive version with either a 63kWh battery or 87kWh battery, with the larger battery also available in an all-wheel-drive model.

Depending on the variant, Nissan claims a driving range of between 404km and 531km.

The range-topping Ariya puts out a maximum of 225kW – which is said to be good for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.7 seconds – with a sporty Nismo version also available in some markets.

The all-new Nissan Leaf will follow the Ariya into the Australian market, offering buyers a smaller SUV body for the first time, while sharing the Ariya’s electric architecture.

It appears the city-sized Nissan Juke SUV is set to be dropped from the company’s local line-up, with the third-generation model adopting an electric powertrain from 2026 – however, there’s no mention of the car in the brand’s latest announcement for this part of the world.

Australia is also missing out on the all-new electric Nissan Micra city car, which shares its platform with the recently-launched Renault 5 hatchback in Europe.

While the Ariya is set to launch within the next 12 months, the Patrol, Navara, Leaf, and Qashqai are all penciled in for a launch between April 2026 and March 2027.
