The new Chery Tiggo 8 has broken cover in China, set to be released in its home market in Q4 of this year, bearing a striking resemblance to the likely related Lepas L8 revealed earlier this year. However, details surrounding a possible Australian release are yet to be confirmed.

Compared to the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max currently sold in Australia, the second-generation model is longer by 29mm, wider by 20mm, and taller by 5mm, and its wheelbase is 115mm longer based on the dimensions reported by Car News China.

Two different front fascia designs will be available for the second-generation Chery Tiggo 8, each featuring different headlight and grille designs.

One features a similar diamond-shaped grille pattern to the current Tiggo 8 Pro Max and Super Hybrid models, while the other is virtually identical to that of the Lepas L8 and similar to the incoming Chery Tiggo X, which is badged as the facelifted Tiggo 8 Plus in China.

The Tiggo 8 is currently sold in Australia with a choice of either a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the Pro Max variant or a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Super Hybrid featuring a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, an electric motor and an 18.3kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. However, powertrain details for the second-generation Tiggo 8 are yet to be revealed.

Despite its unveiling in China, Chery Australia currently has no plans to introduce the updated model on local shores.

“Chery Australia is always looking at our parent company for new and exciting products to bring to the local market. However, there are currently no plans to introduce the updated Tiggo 8,” a Chery Australia spokesperson told CarSauce.

“The current Tiggo 8 lineup (including CSH models) will continue into 2026.

While the new Tiggo 8’s arrival remains uncertain for Australia, its L8 relative is expected to be the debut model for the Lepas brand in Australia.
