MG Motor Australia has announced the launch of its all-electic hatchback, the MG4 EV, with pricing starting at $38,990 (AUD) plus on-road costs for the base model, the MG4 Excite. Additional models include the 64kWh Excite priced at $44,990, the 64kWh Essence at $47,990, and the 77kWh Essence at $55,990.

To make room for the new MG4, MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao confirmed the discontinuation of the ZS EV Excite, while the ZS EV Essence and Long Range will remain available.

The MG4 EV is built on the new Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), featuring a rear-wheel drive and 50:50 weight distribution. It is available in four specifications: the MG4 51kWh Excite, MG4 64kWh Excite, MG4 64kWh Essence, and MG4 77kWh Essence. A performance version, the 64kWh AWD 'X-Power', is also under consideration.

Battery capacities range from 51kWh to 77kWh, with driving ranges from 350km (WLTP) for the 51kWh model to 530km for the 77kWh Essence Long Range. Charging for the 64kWh battery can reach up to 140kW, translating to a charge time from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes using a 150kW DC rapid charger.

The MG4 EV comes with a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty. It features the MG Pilot advanced driver assistance as standard on the 64kWh and 77kWh Essence, which includes features like Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, and more.

The interior of the MG4 EV boasts black fabric upholstery or synthetic leather interior trim with contrasting cloth inserts, depending on the model. It is equipped with integrated dual-screen technology and the MG iSMART connected car system, which comes with voice capabilities on Essence models.

The launch of the MG4 EV in Australia is scheduled for the second half of 2023.
