The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology is just weeks away from launching in Australia, CarSauce has learned.

Mercedes-Benz was expecting to bring the electric G-Wagen to market in the fourth quarter of 2024 (October to December), however the vehicle has been delayed for several months.

While initial details of the G580 suggested a driving range of up to 473 kilometres, thanks to its 116kWh battery, the G-Wagen has been certified with a driving range of up to 567 kilometres in Australia.

The battery feeds four electric motors – one for each wheel – producing a combined output of 432kW and 1164Nm, making it the most powerful G-Class ever produced, including those from AMG.

The individual e-motors allows the vehicle to spin on the spot, referred to as G-Turn.

Full pricing and details have yet to be announced, but CarSauce understands the G580 will be available as a limited launch edition, known as the Edition One – combining AMG Line and Night Packages on the exterior, along with a Superior Line package with blue contrast stitching inside.

The AMG Line package includes restyled bumpers, a chrome grille, side steps, brushed aluminium trims, tinted lighting, 20-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, and Guard 360 – allowing the owner to track their vehicle via a smartphone app and shut it down if stolen, among other features.

Inside, the Superior Line offers quilted leather upholstery, a leather-trimmed dashboard, Active Multicontour Seat Package Plus, a sliding sunroof, ambient lighting for the air vents, black roofliner in microfibre, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system.

There’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, as well as a second 12.3-inch infotainment screen.

With the vehicle certified with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 3500kg – the maximum weight allowed while driving – and a tare mass of 3090kg, owners will only have 410kg of payload including passenger, and not including a full tank of fuel.

The electric G-Wagen has not been certified to tow in Australia.

Pricing is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, along with final specifications for the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology.
