Chery has announced its plans to introduce the OMODA E5 electric vehicle (EV) to the Australian market in mid-2024. The move is part of Chery's strategy to expand its presence in Australia and offer more sustainable vehicle options to consumers.

The OMODA E5, an electric SUV, features a single motor producing 150kW and 340Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. The vehicle is noted for its energy efficiency, consuming 15.5kWh per 100 kilometres, and it offers a range of up to 430km on a single charge according to the WLTP standard.

The SUV comes equipped with various technological features, including a 12.3-inch curved screen and a panoramic sunroof. Customers will have a range of exterior and interior colours to choose from.

Lucas Harris, Managing Director of Chery Australia, stated that the OMODA E5's design, range, and features align with the increasing Australian demand for environmentally friendly vehicles. He emphasised that the E5 is part of Chery's plan to make advanced electric vehicle technology accessible to Australian drivers.

The OMODA E5 will be offered in Standard and Premium trim levels, with more details on pricing and specifications to be revealed closer to its launch date. The vehicle will join Chery’s line-up of internal combustion engine vehicles, including the OMODA 5, the Tiggo 7 Pro, and the Tiggo 8 Pro Max.

Since its entry into the Australian market in 2023, Chery has sold over 6000 vehicles and expanded its dealership network to 60 locations across the country.

Matt Brand
I’m Matt, the Founder and CEO of CarSauce. I kicked things off back in 2020 with "Matt Brand Cars," back when it was just me and a camera trying to change how car reviews were done. Before I traded the corporate suit for steering wheels, I worked in management consulting at KPMG and in the aviation industry after finishing my Commerce degree at Melbourne Uni.‍ That business background helped me turn a passion project into what CarSauce is today, but my real goal is to make sure our reviews stay entertaining and honest. When I’m not deep in car specs, I’m usually on camera trying to keep Jacob in line - though, as you’ve probably seen, that’s easier said than done!
